Obituary for Walter Lawrence Crawford

BANGOR – Walter “Mickey” L. Crawford Jr., 85, passed away Friday April 11, 2014 at a Maine Veterans Home in Bangor. He was born December 2, 1928, in Bangor, the son of Walter L. and Gertrude (Boutreau) Crawford Sr. Mickey grew up in Bangor and attended Bangor schools. In 1950 he joined the U.S. Army and served until 1952. He married Joanne Eagers and together they would raise three children, Walter III, Susan, and Douglas. Mickey and Joanne would often play beano and they had many wonderful times together. He worked as a firefighter for Bangor Fire and retired after twenty years of dedicated service and then went to work for Dead River delivering oil and in dispatch. He was a member of the V.F.W. in Howland. He is survived by two children, Walter L. Crawford III of Bangor, Susan Nealey and her husband Nathan of Palmetto, FL, four grandchildren, Gabrielle and Dylan Nealey both of Palmetto, Justin “J.T.” Crawford of Bangor, Jessalyn Crawford of Ellsworth, Nicole, Ashley, Corey Crawford, all of Bangor, great grandchildren, a daughter- in-law Laura Crawford, and a very special niece Ann Fitz In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his wife Joanne, and a son Douglas Crawford. Friends are welcome to call 6-8 PM Wednesday April 16, 2014 at Brookings-Smith 133 Center St., Bangor. A Funeral Liturgy outside of Mass will be held 11 AM Thursday April 17 at the funeral home. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center St., Bangor, following the Funeral Liturgy outside of Mass. Interment will take place at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Bangor. Those who wish to remember “Mickey” in a special way may make gifts in his memory to the American Cancer Society One Bowdoin Mill Island, Suite 300, Topsham, ME 04086.
