Obituary for Ruth Evelyn Rubino

BREWER – Ruth E. Rubino, 91, passed away Monday April 14, 2014 at an assisted living home in Bangor. She was born February 11, 1923, in Brooklyn, NY, the daughter of Philip and Ella (Lucas) Owens. Ruth grew up in Queens, NY. On April 28, 1945 she married Gerard Rubino who was her loving companion until his passing in 1985. She worked alongside her husband for many years as he served in the ministry of the Episcopal Church in New York and Maine. Ruth was known as a lady who was compassionate and broadminded, and these attributes served her well in her role as a minister’s wife. She loved swimming, and was very involved in the communities she lived in, acting as a Girl Scout and Cub Scout Leader. Ruth worked as a traffic manager for WAGM in Presque Isle. She and her husband moved to Spring Hill, FL in 1978 and was the office manager at Holiday Springs RV Resort for over twenty years, until she moved back to Maine in 2006. She is survived by two sons, John Rubino and his wife Kathy Bodkin of Brewer, George Rubino of Pownal, three grandchildren, Gabe Rubino of Standish, Kiern Robillard of Freeport, Rachael Billings of Gray, three great grandchildren, Faith Robillard, Mason Rubino, and Emilia Billings. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her husband Rev. Gerard Rubino, and a sister Jean Childs. A memorial service will be held 1 PM Friday May 9, 2014 at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 225 French St., Bangor, with the Rev. Canon Marguerite A.H. Steadman, Rector, officiating. A committal service with interment will take place at a later date at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 2301 Deltona Blvd, Spring Hill, FL 34606. Those who wish to remember Ruth in a special way may make gifts in her memory to St John’s Episcopal Church, 234 French St. Bangor, ME 04401.
