Obituary for Sidney Dean Oakes

Sidney Dean  Oakes
Brewer- Sidney D. Oakes, 60, went to be with the Lord July 8, 2014 as a result of an automobile accident. He was born April 1, 1954 in Bangor the son of Noel and Geraldine (Howells) Oakes. Sid graduated from Camden-Rockport High School in 1972 and attended Berkshire Christian College. During his high school years, Sid served as President of the State Baptist Youth Fellowship, and was a member of the Chestnut Street Baptist Church, where he led the hand bell choir. Sid recently found a new calling and became a member of the Calvary Chapel Church where proudly he ran the sound system for the many church services and other events. He recently became involved in the Prison Ministries, where he and fellow band mates would travel to area prisons and share their music. It gave Sid great joy to inspire others thru music. Music was a major part of Sidney’s life. He was always tapping his feet or using his fingers as drumsticks on the table. In his early years, Sid played for many area bands, and made a lot of dear friends along the way. He was well known for his quick wit and wonderful sense of humor. He found humor in everything and had a contagious laugh. In addition to his parents Noel and Geraldine Oakes of Rockland Sid is survived by his wife Kimberly Oakes of Brewer; the mother of his children, Ellie Weaver, of Belfast; children, Jennifer Oakes and her husband, Ted Lovejoy, of Belfast, and Ryan Oakes and his girlfriend Erica Sprague, of Lincolnville; granddaughters Emma Herring, of Belfast and Haley Sprague of Lincolnville; a sister Kathleen (Oakes) Kellett and her husband Roger of Hope; a brother Timothy Oakes and his wife Katrina of Appleton; and two nephews Steven Oakes of Appleton and Daniel Oakes of Rockland.
Sid also leaves behind brothers-in-law, Gary George and his wife Laurie, and Darrell George and his girlfriend Kim; sister-in-law, April (George) and her husband Jim McManus; nieces and nephews Dylan, Logan, Nicholas, Eve, Emily and Ian; He was predeceased by two brothers, Daniel Joseph Oakes and Charles Adam Oakes; nephew Jeff Oakes; brother-in-law Timothy George, and his mother-in-law, Gloria George. In addition to his family, he was known as Uncle Sid to some special children in his life. Dominic, David, Emily, Hailey, Todd and Maddy. Sid will be especially missed by his lifelong friends, Bill Whitney of Camden, John Bronson of Bangor, and very special friend Sandy McGarrigle of RI. Friends may call from 6-8pm Saturday, July 12, 2014 at the Brewer Chapel of Brookings-Smith, 55 South Main Street, Brewer. Funeral services will be held 2:00pm Sunday, July 13, at Calvary Chapel 154 River Road, Orrington. Relatives and friends are invited to share conversation and refreshments at the church immediately following the service. Interment will be in the Maplewood Cemetery, Clifton.
