Obituary for Patricia Minnie Gallupe

BANGOR– Patricia Minnie Gallupe, 87, died Wednesday, Sept. 24 at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor. Pat spent her final days in the company of her family, including her husband Donald, and children Dawn, Barb and Steve.
Patricia was born on February 7, 1927, in Dover-Foxcroft, the daughter of LeRoy H. and Doris A. (Johnston) Luttrell, but spent most of her life in Bangor, where she met her husband when they were both children growing up on the same street. Though she told her grandchildren that the first time she met Donald she “threw a rock at him,” their marriage was a devoted partnership. For nearly 64 years they lived, worked, and raised their family just a few streets away from their childhood homes. Pat’s children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren all knew the depth of her nurturing spirit, as did her friends and community. The majority of Pat’s working years were dedicated to the Bangor School Department as a librarian at Fourteenth Street, Abraham Lincoln, and Dow Lane schools. She was a member of the first United Methodist Church of Bangor, the Junior League, Patawa Club, National Honor Society of Bangor High School, and the Maine Troop Greeters. Pat had a bright mind and a ready wit; she enjoyed sharpening both on the daily crossword puzzle. Above all else she was a nourishing presence, filling her family with good food and unflagging commitment to hearth and home.
Pat is survived by her husband Donald, of Bangor; her brother Phil Luttrell and his wife Nancy of Bangor; daughter Dawn Smith and her husband Pete of Carrabassett Valley; daughter Barb Gallupe-Kreitzer and her husband Bob of Bangor; son Stephen Gallupe and his wife Bonnie of Dover-Foxcroft; five grandchildren: Mike Smith and his wife Beth; Craig Lavarreda and his wife Anna; Hannah, Zoe and Zachary Kreitzer; and three great-grandchildren: Sadie, Jasper, and Marlowe.
A memorial service will be held 11am Tuesday, September 30, 2014 at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center Street, Bangor with the Rev. Arlene M. Tully, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, Bangor and the Rev. Elaine Hewes officiating. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center Street, Bangor immediately following the service Tuesday. A graveside service will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery, Bangor. Those who wish to commemorate Pat in a special way may make donations to the Bangor Humane Society, 693 Mt. Hope Avenue, Bangor.
