Obituary for Howard Grant Perkins

HANCOCK – H. Grant Perkins, 74, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on September 27, 2014 at a Bangor hospital. Grant was born October 20, 1939 in Bangor, son of Howard and Estelle (Emerson) Perkins.

Grant graduated in 1957 from Bangor High School. He was an avid baseball player, playing City League, and semi-pro League Baseball. Grant loved the Boston Red Sox and was so excited when they won the World Series in 2004, 2007 and 2013. He was also a strong New York Giants Football fan. Grant worked at the Pie Plate in Old Town for nine years, the Stanley Leen Company of Brewer and Bangor for 23 years, and Applied Industrial Technologies in Hermon for 5 years; part of that time being spent in East Millinocket. He then was placed on disability and retired in 1996. Grant enjoyed photography and taking pictures, especially at the Basketball tournaments where he would get the films developed and hand the pictures out to the players on the different teams. He got a lot of enjoyment helping the kids with their scrapbooks and made many lasting friendships. Grant enjoyed life to the fullest, taking trips around Maine and New Hampshire, taking in the sights and scenery with his wife, family and close friends.

Grant is survived by his soul mate, best friend and wife of nearly 29 years, Charlotte Marie (Beal) Perkins of Hancock; three daughters, Diana Lyn Akerly of Milford, Wendy Lou Perkins of Winterport and Ashley Marie Perkins of Bangor; one son, Anthony “Tony” Thomas Perkins of North Carolina; a stepson who is like a son, Daniel Todd Jamison of Holden and eight grandchildren.

Grant attended the Bible Baptist Church in Hancock where a memorial service will be held 11am Wednesday, October, 1, 2014 with Pastor Steve Hersey officiating. Interment will be in the Woodbine Cemetery, Ellsworth. Those who wish to remember Grant in a special way may make gifts in his memory to the Maine Coast Memorial Hospital, Heart or Diabetes Fund, 50 Union Street, Ellsworth, ME 04605.
