Obituary for Stephen Benn Mooers

Bangor - Stephen Benn Mooers, 67, died October 4, 2014. He was born on December 26, 1947, the oldest of four sons of the late John Robert Mooers and Mary Louise (Benn) Mooers, Stephen learned his work ethic on a Houlton Maine potato farm. Graduated from Houlton High School, Class of 1964, attended Dean Junior College in Franklin, MA, earned a BA in business from the University of Maine in Orono. Stephen served in the US Army German Finance Corps from 1967 to 1970. Worked 35 years for Penquis CAP in Bangor, overseeing home insulation, surplus food distribution programs. In 2000, becoming director of several ongoing affordable housing projects. Stephen served on several nonprofit boards throughout his career. Stephen is survived by his beloved partner of twenty years Jennifer Giosia, three children, Joshua of San Diego, CA, Justin and Stephanie Mooers, both of Cape Coral, FL. Also younger brothers, Jonathan Mooers and his wife, Susan, of Naples, FL, Brian Mooers and his wife, Kathleen, of Vancouver, WA and Andrew Mooers of Houlton, ME. Stephen's pride and joy were four grandchildren, Mayzie, Kendall, Brady and Charlie; several nieces and nephews. Stephen possessed a spirited, high-energy, humorous personality that was infectious to those around him. Music surrounded him all his life. Making it as a keyboard player, singer for the BOOTLEG, NITELIFE Bangor bands. The life of the party to friends, relatives and associates, this always entertaining "County Boy" will be greatly missed by all. A celebration of Stephen’s life will be held 4:30pm Thursday October 9, 2014 at Brookings-Smith 133 Center St., Bangor. Friends are invited to visit from 3:30pm until time of service. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith 163 Center St., Bangor immediately following the service. Those wishing to remember Stephen in a special way may make gifts in his memory to the Salvation Army 65 South Park Street, Bangor, Maine 04401.
