Obituary for Clarice Emily Weston (Russell)

Clarice Emily (Jellison) Weston
Bangor
Clarice Emily (Jellison) Weston, died November 17, 2014 of natural causes in Bangor. She was born in Bangor, June 7, 1925 to Clarence Hartley Jellison and Sarah “Sadie” Lucille (Russell) Jellison.
She married Harry F. Weston and they had 51 wonderful years together before his death in 1995. After Harry died, she slept for years with a T-shirt of his under her pillow until the wash are its last threads.
Clarice graduated from Bangor High School Class of 1943, was past member of the Order of Rebekah IOOF of Bangor and of the First Christian Church in Bangor. When her boys were young she never failed to volunteer for Cub Scouts, Little League and any other activity that needed help in organizing, supporting or raising money. Clarice worked at N.H. Bragg for a number of years and was a fixture at Freese’s Department Store millinery department before the store closed and she retired. She and Harry moved from Bangor to Sandy Point in 1964 and they spent many winters living in St. Petersburg, Florida. There she organized pot-luck dinners and other activities for all of the friends that she enjoyed. Clarice never met a Bingo game that she could pass up.
She was an excellent comfort food cook and always had fresh yeast rolls by the dozens, blueberry pies and cakes, American chop suey or fresh baked beans for anyone who walked in to her home in Sandy Point. Friends and relatives from everywhere used to drop in just to “have a bite” and visit for a while. There were many lobster bakes at Sandy Point as well and everyone was always made to feel welcomed at her home. Her home was the scene of several of her grandchildren’s weddings and many other family events. She loved flowers and always maintained a beautiful summer garden but was always partial to the Lupines in the field in front of her house that appeared on the cover of Downeast Magazine several times. Her mother had planted them years ago.
In recent years, she had several strokes and was slowed down a little but her sense of humor remained and was second to none and she wasn’t reluctant to tell a few off color jokes. For the past 3 years she has been a patient at The Bangor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center where she has received excellent care.
Clarice was predeceased by her son, Richard and her sister, Elaine.
Surviving are sisters, Nancy Smith of Orrington, Jane Drillen of Bangor, Linda West of Florida; her sons and their spouses, Robert “Hump” and Marian (Jenkins) of Hermon, Michael and Janet (Harvey) of Cape Porpoise; 7 grandchildren and their spouses, Michael of Bangor, Cary and Tori (Hoffman) of Bangor, Erik and Devon (Kuzela), David and Stephanie (McDonald) of Atlanta, GA., Christina and Jeremy Caron of Orono, Jodie and Justin Shaw of Hermon, Sara and Thomas Ribando of West Hartford, Conn.; 12 great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Thursday December 4, 2014 at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St. Bangor. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center St., following the service.
Burial will be at the Sandy Point Cemetery. Those wishing to remember Clarice in a special way may contribute in her memory to the Bangor Area Recovery Network, 142 Center ST. Brewer, ME. 04412.
