Bangor - Joanne L. (Gagnon) Betterley Hogan, 83, born December 4, 1931 in Amesbury, MA., the daughter of Benjamin and Mildred Gagnon, passed away peacefully in her home, surrounded by her loving family on December 9, 2014. Joanne was a graduate of Perley High School, Georgetown, MA. She was a graduate of the Massachusetts School of Physiotherapy in Boston, MA. as an X-Ray Technician. Joanne married George Betterley Jr., who predeceased her in 1970. She married Charles F. Hogan on July 8, 1972. Joanne became a member of the First Baptist Church in 1953, where she was a member and chairman of the Board of Deaconess, Sunday School teacher, flower committee, junior girl scout leader, and was a member for many years of the YWCA, where she served on the board of directors and other committees. She was a past president and member of the Bangor Garden Club for over 50 years. She was also a member and past president of International Altrusa Club of Bangor. Joanne was co-owner of the Eddington Superette with her husband, Charles, with many happy years spent there with an almost “Cheers” like atmosphere. She was happiest raising and loving her children and grandchildren. Surviving in addition to her loving husband of 42 years, Charles, are two sons, Todd Betterley of N.Y.C, and Shawn Betterley and his wife Robin of Bangor; two daughters, Lucretia and her husband Bill Bagley, of Portland, Alice and her husband Tony Michaud of Veazie; two step-daughters Kim and her husband Steve Perreault of Caribou, and Tricia Hogan of Morrill. She is also survived by her loving grandchildren and great grandchildren, Taryn and Scott Reece, Rachel Betterley, Fallon Buckley, Alex Michaud, AJ Michaud, Austin Charles Michaud, Emma-Jean Betterley Dow, Robert Oscar Demmons. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, December 12, 2014 at Brookings Smith, 133 Center Street, Bangor with the Rev. Stephanie Salinas, pastor, First Baptist Church, Bangor, officiating. Friends are welcome to call from 10:00 am until the time of the service. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshment at the Family Reception Center of Brookings Smith, 163 Center Street, Bangor, immediately following the service. Interment will be held 2:00 pm Friday at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Bangor. Condolences to the family may be expressed at www.Brookingssmith.com.
