Obituary for Jean H. Cowie

Bangor – Jean (Deering) Cowie, 92, passed away Monday, December 15, 2014 in Bangor. Jean was born in Bangor on June 7, 1922 the only child of the late Maurice and Enid Deering.
Jean grew up and attended schools in Hampden, graduating from Hampden Academy in 1940. She attended Farmington Normal School and taught in Greenville, Maine, where she met her husband. She raised her children in Bangor where she served as a substitute teacher for many years. She was active in Bangor Women’s Club and Quipus.
In addition to her parents, Jean was predeceased by her husband of 50 years Edwin Cowie. She is survived by her son, John and his wife, Carol of Old Town, her daughter Nancy Whitney and her husband, Mike of San Luis Obispo, California, and 4 beloved grandchildren, Dr. Rory Cowie of Boulder, Colorado; Megan Whitney of San Luis Obispo, California; Mandy Whitney BenNaim and her husband Ma’ayan of Alameda, California; and a step -grandson, Dylan Farnum and his family of Walla Walla, Washington.
Jean’s ashes will be interred beside her husband’s at a graveside service at Mount Hope Cemetery at a date and time to be announced later.
