Foster Gray, 93, died January 12, 2015 at a Bangor health care facility. He was born May 4, 1921 in Orland, son of the late Alvertie E. and Carrie Gray.
Foster retired in 1986 after working 25 years as Forest Ranger with the Maine State Forest Service, starting at the Look Out Tower on Bald Mountain in Dedham. He also worked part-time for Adams & Jordan Oil Co., St. Joseph Hospital and Brewer Shop ‘N Save.
Foster was a member of the Dedham Congregational Church, past master of Victory Grange #538, and a member of Rising Sun Lodge #71 for over 70 years.
He was predeceased by his wife, Irene of 63 years, a son, Stephen “Steve” Gray and several siblings.
Surviving are a son, Wayne and his wife Joan of Dedham; daughter-in-law, Marilyn “Pokey” Gray of Brewer; one grandson, Shawn Gray and his fiancé, Kim Tripp of Bangor; two granddaughters, Brandy Jo Ellis and husband James of Brewer, Amanda “Mandy” Savoy and husband, Jason of Milford; one great granddaughter, Michela Malchiodi of Brewer; one brother, Alvertie Gray, Jr. of Orland.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday January 17, 2015 at the Brewer Chapel of Brookings-Smith, 55 South Main St. Brewer, where relatives and friends are invited to call 1 p.m. until time of service. Spring interment will be in the Granite Cemetery, Orland. Gifts in his memory may be sent to a charity of one’s choice.
The family would like to thank the staff of Westgate Manor for their loving care of Foster.
