Orono – Dorothy Louise (Jones) Smith, 95, died Friday, January 16, 2015, at her daughter’s home in Milford after a brief illness. She was born in Brownville on December 21, 1919, the daughter of William Nelson Jones and Florence (Bridges) Jones.

After graduating high school, Dorothy worked at the Chalet in Orono, where she met a gentleman named Philip Smith. They were married on her birthday in 1940. She then spent her time being busy raising her family. She belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary in Orono for 32 years and she belonged to a group of people called the Nit Wits.

The family would like to thank Hospice of Eastern Maine, Dr. Ritter, and hospice nurse Cheryl for their wonderful care of our mother.

Dorothy is survived by her daughter Sandra Moon and husband Carl; 3 sons, George Smith and wife Anne, Stephen Smith and wife Janet, and Philip Smith and wife Cynthia; 11 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; 2 great great granddaughters; 1 step great great granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents Dorothy was predeceased by her sisters Glenwood Michaud and Winona Levasseur; and her husband Philip in 1999.

Friends and relatives are invited to a memorial service Saturday January 24 at 10AM at the Orono Chapel of Brookings Smith, 72 Main Street, Orono.
