BANGOR AND BRUNSWICK - David James Cahoon, Jr., passed away on January 14, 2015, in Brunswick, Maine. A lifelong resident of Bangor, he was born on May 1, 1920. Working in a local restaurant, he met and fell in love with his beloved wife, Rosella (Drew). They were married in 1941. She predeceased him in 2009. During World War II, David served as a Staff Sergeant in an Artillery Division, U.S. Army in the Pacific Theater. After the war, he returned to Bangor, where he ultimately worked his way up to Sales Manager for N.H. Bragg & Sons. He was an active member for many years of the Anah Shrine. After retirement, he was President of the Bangor Noontime Kiwanis, and was honored for his exceptional fundraising. He was instrumental in bringing the Cardiac Rehab Center to EMMC. David enjoyed traveling and camping, plus gardening, painting, and stamp collecting. He is survived by his four loving daughters; Susan Lord of Brunswick, Maine; Linda Callahan of Attleboro, Massachusetts; Janet Sales of Chula Vista, California; and Janice Cahoon-Sullivan of San Diego, California. He is also survived by his three sisters, Jean Smith and June Varney of Florida, Annette Donovan of New Hampshire, and one brother, Ernest Cahoon of Florida. He has seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are welcome to call 7-8 p.m., Wednesday, January 21, 2015, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where a funeral service will be held 10 a.m., Thursday, January 22, with the Rev. Grace Bartlett, officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Bangor. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at Seasons Grill, 427 Main St., Bangor, following the interment.
