Paul Henri LaMarche

Surrounded by family Paul went to his heavenly home on Jan.21,2015 at Citrus Memorial’s Hospice, after a long battle with heart disease and recent lung cancer Paul was born on September 5, 1929 in Dorchester Massachusetts, the young child of the late Hormisdas and Eva Bernadette Daudelin LaMarche.
Paul graduated from Latin High School in Boston Massachusetts. Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy where he began his medical career serving as a Pharmacists Mate aboard the USS Midway and at one time attached to Marine Expeditionary Forces during World War II and the Korean War.
After being honorably discharged from the Navy, Paul attended Boston College receiving a BS in Biology/Chemistry, Boston University School of Medicine receiving his MD in Medicine/Surgery, Massachusetts Institute of Technology receiving MS in Biochemical Genetics, Winstar Institute/University of PA &Brown University received an MA in Cytogenetic Pediatrics.
Paul was board certified by the American Academies of Pediatrics & Physician Executives, American Board of Pediatrics, and Founding Member of the Genetics Section, American Board of Medical Examiners, and American Board of Medical Examiners.
He was a member of the active staff at Rhode Island Hospital in the departments of Pathology and Pediatrics from 1963-1975, Director and founder of the Cytogenetic Lab at , Medical Director of the Child Development Center at , Assoc. Chief of Pediatrics at Rhode Island Hospital. 1975 Paul and his family moved to Bangor where he became the Chief of Pediatrics and Genetics at Eastern Maine Medical Center until 1985 when he became Chief Clinical Officer and Medical Director of EMMC until his retirement in 1995. During his time at EMMC he helped found Maine Toxicology Institute and Norumbega Specialists, LTD. Paul had Academic appointments as an Assoc. Professor, Genetic Research with Brown University, Lecturer, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Clinical Professor of Pediatrics Tufts University Medical School, Cooperating Professor, Emeritus, University of Maine at Orono, Professor of Health Science and Director, Research Institute Husson College.
Paul received awards, Navy Commendation Medal USN Medical Corp 1950, Franklin Delano Roosevelt Award 1984, Health Education Award from Maternal and Child Health Assoc. in 1980, Child Development Center Award 1974, Eastern Maine Healthcare Distinguished Service Award 1994 and Pediatric Leadership Award Rhode Island Hospital 1997.
Paul published numerous medical articles and co-wrote many published articles and books with many of his associates. He worked tirelessly with the Cystic Fibrosis clinics’ in addition to many other pediatric clinics. He worked his work, the patients and their families.
The summer home at Grand Lake Stream was where he enjoyed to be, a place to gather with family, friends and beloved dogs. There was great pleasure watching nature from the sun room or out on the lakes.


He was predeceased by his parents, his brother Robert and sisters Bernadette Pazasis and Lorraine Jones, his first wife, Genevieve Judge LaMarche, and second wife, Erlinda Polvorsa LaMarche, M.D. and a granddaughter Jessica Pepin LaMarche.
Paul is survived by his loving wife Rolande M. (Belanger) LaMarche, sons Paul LaMarche Jr. Ph.D. and wife Sue of Ewing Township, NJ, son Phillip LaMarche of Augusta ME, Daughters Marian and her husband Patrick O’Brien of Lisbon ME, Claire and her husband Dr. Ron Welch, M.D., Patricia and her husband Chad Bruce Carlisle PA, stepsons (Ret.) MSgt, David Belanger and his wife Tarilyn of Ashland MO, Darel Belanger and fiancé Cherie Soto of Woodstown NJ, and stepdaughter Rachelle Belanger and her husband Christopher Ashmore of Tallahassee Fl. Grandchildren Kiernan LaMarche, Riley LaMarche, Casey LaMarche and her spouse Corey, Denis Murphy and his wife Alexis, Colleen Murphy and her husband William DePaolo, Jennifer O’Brien and her husband David Peters, Brendan O’Brien and his wife Emily, Marygrace O’Brien and her husband Nicholas Trakas, Rory O’Brien, Terrence O’Brien, Neal Wheaton, John Russell and wife Kaede Johnson and Rebecca Russell, Jessica Belanger and Jenna Belanger, Alyssa Belanger, Abel and Eli Ashmore, Cole and Alex Soto, Hunter and Haleigh. Paul had several great grandchildren Aine, Nora, Eamonn O’Brien, Ronan Russell, Bryce Loeffler, William and Ella DePaolo, Noelle and Reina Murphy.
Relatives and friends are welcome to call 3-5 p.m. Tuesday January 27, 2015, and 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, at Brookings- Smith 133 Center St, Bangor Maine. A Funeral Mass will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday January 28, 2015 at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, North Main St. Brewer. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments in the parish hall, immediately following the mass. Interment with military honors will be 1 p.m. Thursday January 29, 2015 at the Chapel of Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery , Augusta.
