Obituary for Francis W. Cushman

NEWBURGH - Francis Wilfred Cushman, 78, died March 2, 2015 at a Bangor hospital. He was born October 17, 1936 in Bangor, son of George M. and Mary M. (Chisholm) Cushman.

Cushy was a graduate of John Bapst, class of 1955. He first served and was honorably discharged from the U.S. Marine Reserve and then was also honorably discharged from the U.S. Air Force. He was dedicated to the William Varney family for 50 years, starting at Varney Auto Supply on Hancock Street and progressed to Pembroke Farm in Bangor from which he left in 2013 due to ill health. Cushy loved his family, sports and horse racing. He was the youngest of 12 children.

Surviving are his children, Melanie and husband, Jerry , Tim, Roger and Billy; 6 grandchildren, Jennifer, Jessica, Eric, William, Travis and Jayla; 4 great-grandchildren, Aria, Mason, Jasmine and Brantley; 2 sisters, Theresa and Sister Rachel RSM; 2 brothers, Charlie and Rick; and special friends, Bill and Brenda Varney and family and numerous other friends. He was predeceased by his former wife and mother of his children, Patricia (Inman) Cushman; a stepdaughter, Pamela and seven siblings.

Relatives and friends are welcome to call 5 to 7pm Tuesday March 10, 2015 at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center Street, Bangor. Funeral prayers and Rite of Committal with military honors will be prayed at Mount Pleasant Catholic Cemetery, Bangor, in the spring, at a date and time to be announced.
