Obituary for Florence Esther Long

BANGOR – Florence Esther Long, 84, wife of the late Willis “Roy” Long, died peacefully at the home of her daughter, Cheryl, in Orono March 5, 2015 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. She was born October 29, 1930 in Bangor, daughter of Grover and Esther (Conary) Hall.

Florence was a graduate of Bangor High School and will be remembered as a successful Avon Representative for 35 years. She especially enjoyed her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and Cheryl’s dogs, Sophie, Shade and Shorty. Florence and Roy were long time members of the Columbia Street Baptist Church in Bangor and also members of the Eagles Club Penobscot Arie #3177 of Brewer.

Surviving are two daughters, Carol Long of Bangor and Cheryl Long of Orono; two grandchildren, Jaime Randall and her husband, Matt of Glenburn and Duane McCarter of Bangor; two great-granddaughters, Alexis and Harley Randall; one great-grandson, Rhonan McCarter; three stepchildren, Nancy, Jimmy and Sharon. In addition to her parents and husband, Roy, she was predeceased by two brothers, Eddie and Junior.

A funeral service will be held 1:30pm Sunday March 8, 2015 at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center Street, Bangor with the Rev. Dr. Stan Moody, pastor of the Columbia Street Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Bangor. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center Street, following the interment Sunday.
