Obituary for Charles M. Sias

Charles M. Sias Jr. passed away April 21, 2015. He was born July 10, 1924 in Boston, MA, the son of Charles and Eleanor R. Sias.
Charlie was educated in Brookline schools and New Hampton Prep, New Hampton N.H. Charlie was honorably discharged from the U.S. Maritime service in 1946. He served in the U.S. Army in 1946 and in 1947 in the Pacific theater on the Island of Oahu in the 747th Vet Food Inspection Department when he obtained the rank of Sergeant. He was honorably discharged at Camp Stoneman, Calif., in 1947. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 12 of Bangor. Charles was very active in his local and statewide activities; served on the board of Christian education of All souls Church, the boards of deacons, Permanent Deaconate in 1973, the board of the Ronald Mc Donald House, as well as the board of directors of the Eastern Agency on Aging. He was appointed district and statewide coordinator for AARP. He was one of the founders of the Penobscot County Area Triad, September 1999, having served two terms as its chair. Among the many community projects carried out by his organization, the one most associated with Charlie was the one known as the “File of Life” program, dedicated to seeing that our senior citizens had one place on their refrigerator. Charlie was employed at the Community Broadcasting Company WABI-TV for 32 years. During that time he witnessed many changes in that industry. He served as a local regional sales manager. When WABI-TV moved its towers to Dixmont Mountain, opening up a whole new market he was in charge of sales development. As a member of Maine Association of Broadcasters, He was awarded its “Life line of our industry” award. He was active in the Jaycee organization for many years and was state president in 1957, and was given the lifetime membership J.C.I. Senator No. 2963, dated September 1961. He has served as a staff member of the New England School of Communications and most recently received the WLBZ-TV Channel 2, award for volunteerism in 2002 “2 Those Who Care”. Charlie was an avid Red Sox fan, Patriots fan, and played golf, but not very well.
Charles is survived by his wife Jocelyne “Joyce” Sias; his four children, Charles P. and his wife Rachelle, of Levi Province of Quebec, Jonathan R. and his wife, Susan, of Henderson, Nev., Elizabeth A. Richards and her husband, Don, of Pembroke Pines, Fla., and Stephen T. and his godson, Ryan, both of Kenduskeag; his five stepchildren, Monica Ann Paiva and her husband, Jerome, of Bristol, N. H., Marjorie T. Tourigny and her husband Joseph of Dixmont, Claudette C. Blanchet and her husband Keith of Dracut, Mass., Richard Fournier of Piermont, N.H., and Russell G. Fournier and wife Chris of Hillsborough, N.H.; 10 grandchildren, Christopher, David, Michael, Maurice, Matthew, Mark, Melissa, Roger, Jennifer, and John, ; 9 great grandchildren, David, Dakota, Hazel, Brittany, Rachel, William, Andrew, Eliza and Poppy; and his brother-in-law, Maurice R. Levesque and his wife Marjorie, of Berlin, N.H. He was predeceased by his first wife, Anne Trundy Sias of Bangor, a brother Peter M. Sias of Pensacola, Fla.; and his grandson Jeffrey J. Sias.
A funeral service will be held 10am Monday April 27, 2015 at All Souls Congregational Church, 10 Broadway, Bangor, with Rev. Dr. James L. Haddix, Pastor and Teacher, officiating. Following the service friends are invited to share conversation and refreshments in the church vestry. Interment will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Bangor.
