Obituary for Mavis Evelyn Hussey (Robbins)

Very unexpected by us but planned by God, Mavis went peacefully to heaven May 21, 2015, surrounded by her family at her bedside.
Mavis was born to parents Fred and Vera (Maunder) Robbins from Hudson, Maine. She married her High School sweetheart Norman Hussey after graduating from Old Town High School. Norman was killed in a paper mill accident in 1971 leaving her as a single parent to five children: Alan, Skip, Debbie, Rita and Julie. She has seen all of her children as well as her grandchildren marry and has enjoyed the blessing of 20 great-grandchildren.
She was a member of Hudson Baptist Church for many years. She and Norman were the first wedding performed in the church. She served in many capacities at Hudson Baptist Church including (but not limited to) choir member, deaconess, hospitality committee, nursery and kids’ church, VBS and ladies’ Bible studies. She loved serving others and being available with a smile for all. Most recently Mavis was a member of Bangor Baptist Church where she enjoyed the early morning service, small group Bible studies, Sunday School and Senior Saints.
Mavis enjoyed good health and could always be found at concerts, recitals, sports events, baptisms, birthday parties, etc. - anywhere AND everywhere her kids and grandkids were, she was there! She loved quilting, reading, playing cards, dominoes and even mastered an IPAD in recent years!!
Carrying on her legacy for now: son Alan and wife Maggie; son Skip and wife Berta; daughter Debbie and husband Dan Snow; daughter Rita and husband Peter Bragdon and daughter Julie and husband Jeff St. Louis. Her grandchildren: Andy&Jody Coiley, Mike Coiley, Stef (Hussey)&Eric Kepple, Sean&Justina Hussey; Natasha (Hussey)&Barry Caldwell; Monica (Hussey)&Sean Sabine; Danielle (Snow)&Derek Ribbons; Darcy Snow; Desiree Snow; Justin Bragdon, Julie (Bragdon)& Ian Brown; Kim (St. Louis)&Greg Brown, Kristy(St. Louis)&Jon Hatch. Great-grandchildren: Jordann, Alexis, Cassidy & Chase Coiley; Cody & McKenzie Coiley; Jenna, Noah, Leah and Olivia Kepple; Dominic Hussey; Levi Caldwell; Ethan Snow; Bella & Beckett Bragdon; Jasmine, Kennedy & Ryker Brown; Cassie & Lexie Hatch.
She was pre-deceased by her parents; sister Gloria (Niles) Anderson, baby brother Eugene and granddaughter Melissa. Remaining behind for now are sister Shirley Strout; sister Lorrie Hartley and husband Russ; brother Gene Robbins; brother-in-law Richard Hussey and sister-in-law Jean Philbrick and husband Norman.
She will also be fondly remembered by her many nieces, nephews, friends, extended family and church family in Maine and Florida.
We extend a warm thank you to EMMC staff as well as Pastors Tom Obey and Jerry Mick for their care and compassion.
Gifts in her memory may be made to the Bangor Camp of ”Gideons International” P.O. Box 134, Bangor, ME. 04402 where Bibles are distributed around the world. *
Visiting hours will be held 6-8 p.m. Tuesday May 26, 2015 at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor . Funeral services will be held, 1 p.m. Wednesday May 27, 2015 at Bangor Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dr. Jerry Mick officiating. Committal services will be at a later date.
