Obituary for Stephen A. Berry

BANGOR and WINTER HAVEN, FL – Stephen A. Berry, 67, died peacefully at his home in Bangor September 4, 2015. He was born March 28, 1948, in Portland, son of William James and Mary Priscilla (Alden) Berry.

Steve graduated from Gorham High School, class of 1966 and was a 1970 graduate of East Coast Aero Tech. He was employed for 25 years by the Maine Department of Corrections. Steve was a former member of the Gorham Police Reserve and the New England Counsel on Crime and Delinquency, Maine State Police Motor Vehicle Advisory Board. He was also a member of the Cumberland Lodge #12 AF & AM of New Gloucester, a member and State Safety Inspector of the National Street Rod Association, Central Maine Street Rod Club and Road Scholar’s Car Club. Steve had a passion for building hot rods. He was very proud of his family and will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather.

Surviving in addition to his wife, Gail (Morse) Berry of Bangor and Winter Haven, FL, are two daughters, Melissa Quimby and her husband, Arthur, of Bradford and Amy Berry of Bangor; three grandchildren, Jarod Burnett of Corinth, Abigail Quimby of Bradford and Tonya Quimby of Exeter; one brother, William J. Berry Jr., and his wife, Paula, of Madison.

A memorial service will be held 11am Wednesday, September 9, 2015, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center Street, Bangor, with Pastor David Gardiner, chaplain Hospice of Eastern Maine, presiding. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center Street, Bangor, immediately following the service Wednesday. Private interment will be held at a later date in the Village Cemetery, Gorham. Those who wish to remember Steve in a special way may make gifts in his memory to the Central Main Street Rod Club Scholarship Fund in honor of Fallen Members, attn.: Sharon Smith, 451 Levenseller Road, Holden, ME 04429.
