Obituary for Curtis Lee Forbis

BREWER and HAMPDEN - Curtis L Forbis died peacefully at his home on November 8, 2015, with his daughter by his side. He was born March 8, 1918 in North Carolina, son of William Vernon and Mollie ((McManus) Forbis.
Curtis entered the Army in 1941, working his way up to Sergeant in the Military Police, until his honorable discharge in 1945. He married Margaret V Beach on September 23, 1942. They spent their remaining years in Maine. He retired from Jordan's CH Rice, after many years as a food sales representative, servicing schools and restaurants. He was an avid vegetable gardener, and managed to put a full garden in, as recently as this past summer. Earlier in his life, he was active in the Mason's, the Scottish Rite Bodies and was a member of the Maine Consistory, 32nd degree and Anah Shriners. He was outgoing and friendly, connecting personally with people of all ages and backgrounds.
Curtis was a loving husband and devoted father. He was a great friend to all who knew him; a true southern gentleman. He was pre deceased by his wife, Margaret, son, R Gary, and brothers JL and Howard. Curtis is survived by his devoted daughter, Jill Forbis, of Hampden and sister, Cleo Lavailee, of Gray.
Relatives and friends are welcome to call 5 to 7pm Thursday, November 12, 2015 at the Brewer Chapel of Brookings-Smith, 55 South Main Street, Brewer where all are invited to a Masonic memorial service at 6:30pm conducted by the Officers and members of Rising Virtue Lodge #10, AF & AM of Bangor and where a funeral service will be held 1pm Friday, November 13, 2015 with the Rev. Grace Bartlett officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Woodland Cemetery, Brewer. Those who wish to remember Curtis in a special way may make gifts in his memory to New Hope Hospice, PO Box 70, Eddington, ME. 04428-0070.
