Obituary for Nellie Louise Blethen (Drew)

Nellie L. (Drew) Blethen, 95, died November 8, 2015, at her daughter’s home in Bangor. She was born in Bangor, May 9, 1920, the first child of the late Eva Florence (Fenderson) Drew and Charles Earle Drew.
Nellie was a graduate of Bangor High School, Class of 1937 and Beal Business College in 1938. She was a secretary in the insurance field, including the Paul L. Riley Agency. She was a life member of Eastern Star and Daughters of the American Revolution. She held various offices and was a Past Regent of the Frances Deighton Williams Chapter.

Nellie was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Wesley L. Blethen, Sr.; her infant daughter, Dianne D.; as well as her sister, Ruth E. Cluff; and brothers, Robert F. Drew and Harold E. Drew. She is survived by her sister, Charlene M. Carter and her husband, Austin; son, Wesley L. Blethen, Jr. and his wife, Karen of Texas; daughters, Pamela J. Blethen of Derry, NH and Deborah A. Utterback and her husband, J. Gregg, whom she considered her second son, of Bangor. Her grandchildren, who include Brian, Darrell, Craig, Jennifer, Christopher and Timothy Blethen, Alicia Utterback Hodges, David Utterback and Rebecca Utterback; great grandchildren, Kaley and Briana Blethen; Remington, Madeleine and Nathan Blethen; Kaleb and Elora Blethen; Jordan and Elizabeth Blethen; and Cara and Alexander Hodges; as well as many nieces and nephews from Maine to California; and her much loved kitty, Honey Baby.

Nellie enjoyed many summers at camp on Green Lake visiting with family and especially cooking Sunday chicken dinners, homemade vegetable soup and dumplings, and baking yeast rolls for them at Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Friends may call 1-2 p.m., Sunday, November 15 at the Brewer Chapel of Brookings-Smith, 55 S. Main Street, Brewer, where a memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Interment will be held at a later date.
