Obituary for June Elizabeth Bell (Getchell)

June Elizabeth Bell (Getchell)
Veazie and Hampden – June E. Bell, 88, passed away November 15, 2015, at a long term care facility in Brewer. She was born June 24, 1927 in Limestone, the daughter of Harry E. and Vera P. (Lewis) Getchell.

The oldest of five siblings, June was always the mother hen watching out for her brood. She spent many summers with her Grandmother, Melinda Getchell, whom she had so many memories of going into the pantry for donuts and cookies, spending time with her aunts, and taking a dip in the swimming hole on the farm. The Getchells were known for their large family gatherings. In time June continued the tradition by making her home in Hampden home base in the summer for parents, aunts, and siblings travelling home from Florida. June always had large gatherings for birthdays, anniversaries, and holidays. Her home was always warm and inviting. We have many memories of delicious meals being prepared by a wonderful hostess. We also have wonderful memories of times spent at camp on Upper Lead Mountain Pond with family and friends. She was passionate about feeding her wildlife friends at camp. The humming birds, raccoons, squirrels and chipmunks never had to look too far for their next meal when June was there. All of her grandchildren were able to spend time exploring nature, swimming, hiking, and fishing with Grammie and Grampy. After the day had slowed down, the board games and cards would be the entertainment. Many stories and good times were shared. June’s dearest friend, Doris, was always there to support her through the good times and bad. Camping with Doris and Jimmy Spencer was always an adventure. It seemed the only time they all camped together, the weather was an issue. They shared many happy days, swimming and picnicking.
In addition to her parents, June was predeceased by her husband George W. Bell and her brother Alfred Getchell.

June is survived by her daughter Cheryl Bell Monroe and husband Mike of Veazie, and her son Randy Bell of Union; a sister Gloria Porter; a brothers Ernest Getchell and wife Lucy and Wayne Getchell and his wife Sally. June had 5 grandchildren, Melissa (Monroe) Stone and husband Tom, Lyndsey (Monroe) Marston and husband Curtis, Amanda Bell, Jared Bell, and Amber (Bell) Blocker and husband Scott. June is also survived by 3 great grandsons, Noah and Gabriel Stone, and Cody Blocker; and many nieces and nephews as well as 2 special nieces Gayle Porter and Rebecca Crane; and her lifelong friend Doris (Dot) Spencer.

Relatives and friends are welcome to call 4-6p.m. Wednesday, November 18, 2015 at the Hampden-Gilpatrick Chapel of Brookings-Smith, 45 Western Ave., Hampden, where a funeral service will be held 11a.m. Thursday, November 19, with her brother, Pastor Wayne Getchell officiating. Interment will be in Locust Grove Cemetery, Hampden. Those who wish to remember June in a special way may make gifts in her memory to the Good Shepard Food Bank, P.O. Box 1807, Auburn, ME, 04211-1807.
