Obituary for James Arthur Jenkins

James Arthur Jenkins
James A. Jenkins, 84, passed away peacefully in Bangor, January 3, 2016, surrounded by his family. He was born in St. George, October 27, 1931, the son of John J. and Jane (Treloar) Jenkins.
James attended Warren schools and entered the Air Force in 1949, proudly serving a tour in Vietnam. He served his country for 20 years, first as a Radio Operator, later as an Electronic Technician. He retired with the rank of Tech Sergeant. Following his military career, James worked for the Federal Aviation Administration from 1970 until retirement in 1988.
James was a 60 year member of St. George Lodge #16 AF & AM of Warren as well as being a member of St. Andrews Lodge #83 AF & AM of Bangor, and Mystic Lodge #65 AF & AM of Hampden, and a member of the Royal Arch Chapter. He was active as a volunteer for Coles Land Transportation Museum, and was very proud to be a member of the Troop Greeters.
James loved woodworking, operating a ham radio, and music, even becoming a D.J. He enjoyed restoring old cars, and driving them to the museum for display. Most of all, James loved spending time with his family. He was strong, smart and loyal; but he was also happy go lucky and was quite a character. He quickly became “Grandpa” or “Papa J.” to everyone he met.
James is survived by his wife, Gloria G. Jenkins; his sons, John J. Jenkins, and wife, Sally and Gerald C. Jenkins; grandchildren, James A. Jenkins, Mark A. Jenkins, Ashley M. Gaylor, Kimberly A. Robertson, Jeremy M. Heath and Joshua P. Heath; great grandchildren, Johnathon, Madison, Remington, Calvin and Abigail; as well as nieces and nephews and countless dear friends. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his siblings, Raymond and Connie.
A Masonic memorial service conducted by the officers and members of St. Andrews Lodge, #83 will be held 10 am, Saturday, January 9, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center Street, Bangor and will be followed by a service officiated by the Rev. David W. Fox of Veazie Congregational Church.
