JoAnn Karol  Funaiole
JoAnn Karol Funaiole, 77, a resident of Glenburn since 1987, died peacefully February 5 surrounded by her loving family at the Maine Veteran’s Home in Bangor. She was born July 6, 1938 in Tolna, ND, daughter of Julius and Jonette (Tufto) Hovdeness. JoAnn was born and raised in North Dakota, where she settled in Devil’s Lake. JoAnn was employed as a bartender at a restaurant called The Ranch, where she met and married the love of her life Paul Funaiole in 1970. She will be remembered as a loving, dedicated, and committed wife, mother, and grandmother. JoAnn loved keeping track of her family, watching dancing on tv shows, cooking, gardening, and especially tending her lilies.

Surviving are her husband, Paul F. Funaiole of Glenburn, two children, Robert A. Funaiole of ND, and Dawn Allen of Charleston, three step children, Beverly Labay of MA, Judith A. Funaiole of Etna, and Patricia A. Gleason of NC, several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, one brother Gayle Hovdeness, two sisters Geneva Huber and Helen Bremer all of ND, several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a grandson Noah Allen.

The family invites relatives and friends for a brief prayer service, 1pm Tuesday, February 9 at Brookings Smith, 133 Center Street, Bangor shared by Rev. Dr. Rex H. Garrett. Spring interment with committal prayers will be held at a date and time to be announced in the spring at the Pleasant View Cemetery, Glenburn.
