Barbara A. King, 80, wife for 59 years of Joseph B. King Jr., died May 10, 2016 at an Orono Nursing facility. Barbara was born February 28, 1936, in Bangor, daughter of the late Paul E. and Eva F. (Hathorne) Gilpatrick. Barbara was a graduate of Bangor High School, class of 1954. For several years she worked at the Law Office of Edward Cohen both full and part time. Barbara was a 53-year member of the Orono American Legion Auxiliary Unit #84 and was a member of the color guard, a former member of James G. Milner Post #169 of Veazie, and was past president of both units. For several years she also was a Cub Scout Den mother, Pack 32 of Veazie and won several blue ribbons, sewing at area fairs. She and her husband, Joe spent 28 years at camps on Green Lake and 16 years at camps on Chesuncook Lake and loved hunting and fishing. Barbara loved bowling and in 1997 with her sister Pauline, she won the State Senior Ladies Doubles Championship in candlepins. In addition to her parents, Barbara was predeceased by a sister, Pauline and brother-in-law, Spencer King. Surviving, in addition to her husband, Joe, are her son, Steve King and his wife, Laurie of Corinth; granddaughter, Angela Webber; great-grandson, Colton of Veazie; brother-in-law, Paul Colburn of Bangor; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Robert and Lois Russell of Veazie; Ex-daughter-in-law and friend, Collette King of Veazie; also a special niece, Cindy Cowling of Bangor, nephews and countless friends. She will be greatly missed at Denny's from the employees to special friends, Wanda and Jim Moran. A memorial service will be held 11am Monday, May 16, 2016 at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center Street, Bangor with Minister Jannie Shephard of Beacon Hospice officiating. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery, Veazie.
