Obituary for Edward Paul Taylor

Edward Paul Taylor
BANGOR – Edward Paul Taylor, 88, died at his home June 19, 2016. He was born January 29, 1928 in Bangor, son of William and Christine (Noyes) Taylor.

Ed attended Bangor schools and left before graduating to serve a one year tour of duty in the Merchants Marine aboard USS Lurline. The Lurline transported troops from the West Coast to the South Pacific. After completing his tour of duty he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving 3 years in the Panama Canal Zone and as Airman First Class Aviation Mechanic. Later he was assigned to the USS Missouri. He always felt it was an honor to serve on “Big MO”. Ed was honorably discharged in January of 1949. He returned home and married Faith Bennett on August 12, 1949. They shared 66 years of marriage together. Ed took advantage of the GI Bill of Rights and learned the printing trade. He was known for his expertise throughout local area print shops. In earlier years Ed was an Eastern Maine High School Football Official and was always a true fan of all the Boston teams. He enjoyed discussing the games with his brothers and sister. Ed enjoyed many days fishing and hunting. He was awarded membership in the Big Buck Club of Maine. He proudly displayed pictures of salmon he had caught on the Penobscot River. A proud possession is an autographed picture of Ted William inscribed: “To Ed Taylor, a great fisherman.” When he no longer spent his days hunting and fishing he enjoyed gardening.

Ed was predeceased by two brothers, Earland and Alston Haye and two sisters, Jacquelyn Clarke and Suzanne Taylor. Ed is survived by his devoted wife, Faith (Bennett) Taylor of Bangor; two sons, Michael Taylor and his wife, Wanda of Columbus, GA, James Taylor and husband, James Baker-Taylor of Portland; one daughter, Lisa Doucette and her husband, Eric of Old Town; five grandchildren, Michael, Eric, Emily, Andrea and Brandon; four great-granddaughters, Zoe, Sophia, Aspen and Kacia. He also leaves 5 brothers, William Taylor and his wife, Jeanette of Brewer, Donald Taylor and his wife, Eleanor of Bangor, Charles of Bangor, Robert of Eddington, Joseph Taylor and his wife, Nancy of Bangor and one sister, Janet Robinson of Eddington. He was Uncle Ed to numerous nieces and nephews. He knew and loved them all. We will miss his love and guidance but will cherish our memories. The family wishes to express their gratitude to CancerCare of Maine in Brewer, Hospice of Eastern Maine, Donna, Katie and the team of workers that cared for him.

The family invites relatives and friends to share in a celebration of his life with conversation and refreshments at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center Street, Bangor 5 to 7pm Friday, June 24, 2016.
