Obituary for Julia Elizabeth Mayhew (Perkins)

Julia Elizabeth Mayhew (Perkins)
Carmel – Julia E. Mayhew, 79, passed away July 21, 2016 at a Bangor Hospital. She was born February 25, 1937, in Bangor, the daughter of William and Marjorie (Cyr) Perkins.

Julia spent much of her youth being raised by a group from the local Catholic Church and because of that upbringing had a deep respect for God and the Catholic religion. Later she married the love of her life, Galen Mayhew. Because Julia didn’t have much of a family life growing up, she made it a point that her husband and children did not experience the same thing. Family was most important to her. In her spare time she enjoyed watching TV, reading and cross-stitch. Julia made quilts for all 14 of her grandchildren. She learned how to have a garden and also how to do canning. Although she and Galen traveled a lot, Julia most enjoyed staying at home and cooking. She liked the simple life.

In addition to her parents, Julia was predeceased by her sister, Marlene Stutzke; and her daughter, Carrine Carter. She is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Galen; sons Craig and wife, Sandra, Galen, Jr., and wife, Jenny, and Nicholas and wife, Tammy; 14 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; a special nephew, Sal Gioe; special niece, Terry Hampton; many nieces and nephews; and several cousins.

A graveside service will be held 1 pm, Friday, July 29, 2016 at the Highland Cemetery, in Carmel.
