Brewer – Joan E. Lamson, 81, went to be with her Heavenly Father, Thursday, November 10, 2016, at a Brewer health care facility. She was born April 9, 1935 in Brooklyn, New York, the daughter of Earl and Christine (Schlotz) Megquier.

When Joan was a young girl, her family moved home to Maine and operated the family farm, Collyer Brook Farm in Gray. She grew up in Gray, and was a graduate of Pennell Institute, class of 1953. She then went on to earn an Associate’s Degree from Westbrook College in Secretarial Sciences, graduating in 1955. On July 14, 1956, Joan married Lee Lamson of Jonesport. They spent several years raising their young family while Lee served in the U.S. Coast Guard. In the 1960’s, she worked at various banks, assisting in their computerization. She was always interested in computers, and became very proficient in learning to use them both at home and at her various jobs. Joan always put her family first, but was able to work when there were no younger ones at home. Some of her places of employment include Casco Bank, MIS Data Systems, Karl’s Kopy, H.D. Smith & Sons. Joan’s favorite job, which she also considered a ministry, was serving as church secretary at Calvary Baptist Church in Brewer.

Joan and Lee were married for 55 years, and were truly best friends. Outside of working, it was rare to see one without the other. They also had several close friends with whom they enjoyed going to dinner with, both in town and over the road, as well as attending Maine Hockey games. They also enjoyed taking rides to Schoodic Point and points throughout Maine, New England, and the Maritime Provinces, sightseeing, looking for “units”, and creating fond memories. There was always room at the table and in their heart for anyone who needed a warm meal, an encouraging word, or transportation. Joan loved hosting friends for dinner or after church get togethers, and many memorable afternoons and evenings were spent at their home, enjoying delicious food, warm fellowship, and entertaining games.

Joan is survived by her four children, Mike Lamson and wife Judy, Jim Lamson and wife Michele, Christine Lamson, and Chip Lamson and wife Lisa; nine grandchildren, Sara, Michael, Betsy, Billy, Jessica, Josh, Sarah, Mckenzie, and Nicole; six great grandchildren, Gracie, Kyle, Brynn, Billy, Violet, and Cody; two aunts, Ellen Tufts and Ava Walker; and three special cousins, Reina Boudreau, Joanne Waliszek and husband Don, and Shirley O’Leary and husband John; three nieces, Jane Blackwood, Gloria McDonald, and Ruth Smith; and several cousins and friends. In addition to her parents Joan was predeceased by her husband, Lee.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at The Woodlands in Brewer for the loving care extended to our Mom. They were always appreciative of her pleasant smile, mild disposition, and loving nature. You made her feel as part of your family, and we will forever be grateful for that.

Relatives and friends are welcome to call 6-8 p.m. Monday, November 14, at the Brewer Chapel of Brookings-Smith, 55 South Main Street, Brewer, where a funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 15, with Pastor Dan Russell, pastor of Calvary Baptist Church officiating. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the Family Reception Rooms of Brookings-Smith, in Brewer, immediately after the service. Private interment will be at the Maine Veteran’s Cemetery, Mt. Vernon Road, Augusta. Those who wish to remember Joan in a special way may make gifts in her memory to Living Waters Bible Camp, P.O.
