Obituary for Kam Oi Wong (Chan)
BANGOR – Kam Oi (Chan) Wong, 89, passed away peacefully on January 6, 2017 surrounded by her family. She was born to Wing Kwong Chan and Yuen Kwai Sin on December 8, 1927, in Hong Kong.
After marrying Charles W. Wong on May 10, 1949, Kam Oi became a resident of Bangor. Upon entering the city at Union Station, Charlie pointed out the window to the Halloween parade in progress on Exchange Street, “This is for you! To welcome you!” Kam Oi worked for 14 years at the Oriental Restaurant, owned by Charlie's parents Quoy and Grace Wong, on Exchange Street. Charlie and Kam Oi then opened and operated the Ho Sai Guy Restaurant in Veazie for 15 years, retiring in 1979. Kam Oi was a wonderful, spirited woman providing a core of love for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Charles W. Wong; two sisters, King Oi Wong and Suk Oi Chan; a brother Hung Chui Chan; and a grandson, David Wong. She is survived by her three children, Steve and his wife, Teresa, of Brewer, David and his wife, Vivianne, of Windsor Locks, CT and Anna Nevin of Manchester, CT; seven grandchildren, Stephanie Young and her husband, Bryan, of Alton, Chad Wong of Fort Myers, FL, Kelli Williams and her husband, Conrad, of Charleston, SC, Rodger Wong and his wife, Katie, of Brewer, Stephen Wong and his wife Courtney of Clifton, Veronica Eckert and her husband, Brian, of San Antonio, TX, and Chelsea Nevin of Manchester, CT; eleven great-grandchildren, Charlotte “Charlie” and Kam Oi Turner of Alton, Nate and Lily Young of Alton, Grant and Owen Williams of Charleston, SC, Penelope and Oliver Wong of Brewer, William Kogut, Nathaniel and Amelia Wong of Clifton; and sister Yuk Oi Lam of Hong Kong; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
