Hampden – With deep sadness and heavy heart the family of Sage N. Rapp, wishes to announce the unexpected passing of our beloved son in St. Petersburg, Florida on January 29, 2017. Sage was born August 8, 1994 at the EMMC in Bangor.

He was an alumnus of Hampden Academy for the Class of 2013. He served as an educator for the “Be Proud, Be Responsible”, HIV State Education Program for Native Youth in the State of Maine during high school. He played varsity sports with the Hampden Academy Broncos football team during his entire high school experience as defensive tackle. Sage was a member the traditional Wabanaki Medicine Society of Eagle Dancers for young men, of which he was very proud. He left Maine shortly after graduation to enter the US MCRD in Parris Island, SC, Platoon 2078 and Advanced Infantry School, Maine and Camp Lejeune, NC until December 2013. He has remained with Alpha Company Battalion 25th Marines, as a 0311 rifleman. Sage belonged to Mystic Lodge #65, Hampden, as a Master Mason. Sage was full of life and loved his family, friends and Brothers in Arms. He was known as the social butterfly that loved and touched each and every person he came in contact with during his short life. He will be forever cherished and forever missed.

Sage is survived by his parents Natalie Michelle of Winterport; Philip Rapp, Captain, USPHS Commissioned Corp, retired, and his wife Wendy of Penobscot; sister Ana Rapp of Winterport; niece Teahgan Cavanaugh; step-brothers Luke and Ben Haravitch of Virgina and Rochester, NY. The maternal family is the Bear Clan, Mitchell’s of the Penobscot Nation. He is predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Dr. Ted and Eleanor Mitchell; Aunt Sandra Broschard and Uncle Howard Mitchell. He is also predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Lt. Col. John Rapp, US Air Force and Anne Rapp of Honey Falls, NY. He is also survived by his paternal aunts and uncles, including Aunt Linda and Uncle George Jones of South Carolina, Aunt Carla Rapp and Uncle Fritz Hopfinger of Brooklin, and his Uncle John Rapp of Victor, NY. He has several cousins too numerous to name, but all very much loved by Sage. Maternal aunts and uncles, including Uncle Stephen and Aunt Debby Mitchell, of Rhode Island, Uncle Richard Mitchell (his wing man) of Bangor, Uncle Wayne Mitchell of Indian Island, Uncle Kevin Mitchell of Florida and Uncle Carl and Aunt Yvonne Mitchell of Maryland; Uncles Dana and Eugene Mitchell, of Indian Island; Uncle Ralph Broschard, of Somers Point, NJ; Aunt Marie Mitchell, Aunt Maryellen and Uncle Patrick Sockabasin, Aunt Elaine and Uncle Michael Vermette, and Aunt Nancy Mitchell, all of Indian Island.

Relatives and friends are welcome to call 6-8 p.m. February 3, 2017 at the Hampden-Gilpatrick Chapel of Brookings Smith, 45 Western Ave., Hampden, where a Memorial Masonic Service will be conducted at 6 p.m., by the officers and members of Mystic Lodge #65, of Hampden. A celebration of Sage’s life will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, February 4 at the Community Building, 12 Wabanaki Way, Indian Island, with a luncheon following.
