Obituary for Catherine S. Baker (Baker)

Cathy S. Baker, 74, died February 5, 2017, at a Bangor hospital after a long illness. She was born January 23, 1943, in Middleborough, MA, the daughter of James V. and Olga C. (Giamperolz) Baker.

Cathy was an active member of Camp Etna. She was proud of her Italian heritage, and traced her grandfather’s entrance at Ellis Island. Cathy was educated and trained as a Licensed Substance Abuse Counselor and was employed in various jobs at Acadia Hospital, working well into her retirement years. She valued her relationships with several close coworkers. She enjoyed the solitude of her home and acreage in Frankfort, where she gardened, raised Samoyed dogs, and built many house for bluebirds, swallows, and martins. Cathy also built wood duck houses, which she located and maintained on local wetlands for many years. During her final weeks of life she expressed her gratitude for all who have and will help care for her pets, her home, and her spiritual and material wellbeing.

She is survived by her animal companions; Koala, Lena, Zeke, and Alice, as well as a number of cousins in Massachusetts, California, and England.

Services will be private. Anyone wishing to honor Cathy with a donation may make it to the Animal Orphanage, P.O. Box 565, Orono, ME 04473, and/or, Furry Friends Food Bank, a program of Eastern Agency of Aging that helps seniors keep their pets, 450 Essex Street, Bangor, ME 04401.
