George Leslie Morse, Sr. , 73, passed away u nexpectedly in his home on Wednesday, February 22, 2017. He was born October 11, 1943 in Brewer, Maine. He is the second of 6 children born to Oral Danzel & Helen E. (Curtis) Morse.
George grew-up on family dairy farms in Hampden, Newburgh, Garland, and Bradford before settling in Levant. He left the family farm at the age of 17 to join the Navy. Upon his return to Maine, he obtained a position as a foreman at Kagan-Lown in Bangor, which eventually relocated to Old Town.
This is where he met and married his wife of48 years, Margaret aka Margie (Torres) Morse. They raised 2 children together, George Jr. & Mindy.
In 1977 he left the shoe industry to own/operate his first "mom and pop" store with his wife. They operated Morse's Grocery on Center St. in Bangor until 1987. After the sale of this store, they purchased Ye Ole General Store on Route 2 in Carmel. They operated this store until 1990. At which time, they purchased Pizza Pop's on Hammond St. in Bangor. After 2 years, they sold the business and moved to San Diego, CA to be with their daughter and first grandchild, Jonathan (Willie) and to help take care of his ailing father-in-law. They later moved back to Maine and have resided in Winterport for the last 21 years.
George was a dedicated family man with a love for travel and all family oriented activities. In his spare time, he avidly researched the Morse family ancestry. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, (Pine Cone Council #114) Assembly 339 .
George was predeceased by his parents, Oral & Helen; older sister, Vivian Morse and youngest brother, James Morse.
He is survived by, his loving wife, Margie of Winterport, ME.
Children, George L. Morse, Jr. and wife, Gloria (Rivera) Morse of North Ridgeville, OH; Mindy MorseFoss and husband, Steven Foss of Winterport, ME.
grandchildren , Angel Rivera of Clearwater, FL; Matthew Rivera of North Ridgeville, OH; Kristina Thomas of Cleveland, OH; Willie (Jonathan) Patterson of Luray, VA; Jordan Patterson of Winterport, ME.
Great-grandchildren, Kylee, Kaleb, Khloe, Julian & Bailey all of OH.; Arien of FL.
Siblings, Robert & Roger Morse of Levant; Doris Ann Morse of Dover-Foxcroft. many cousins, nieces, nephews and a couple aunts and uncles.
Relatives and friends are invited to call 9 am. to 10:30 am. Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, with a Funeral Mass to follow at 11am., at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. John’s Catholic Church, 207 York St., Bangor. Spring interment will be in Locust Grove Cemetery, Hampden.
