Obituary for Charles Lovell Clifford

Charles Lovell Clifford
Troy – Charles Lovell Clifford, 93, a lifetime resident of Troy, passed away, February 18, 2017, at his home. He was born June 17, 1923, the son of James O. and Beulah B. (Thompson) Clifford.

Charles graduated from Unity High School, class of 1941. He married Mildred Nurmi, the Rural Bible Teacher from Inwood, LI, NY, in 1948, and celebrated their 68th anniversary last June 5th.
They settled in East Troy and started a dairy farm, later moving to Troy Center. They farmed for 40 years with their five children, thankful that God provided. He was happy to have his own business doing what he enjoyed, working with his family and taking care of the land and animals. He loved horses since his childhood at Green’s Corner and told stories of that time. He was comforted by his love for family, being at home on the land, and many memories.

Besides his parents, brothers Stanley Pelton and James Jr. and sister, Dora Doak predeceased him. He is survived by his wife; son Paul and wife Phyllis of Dixmont; son James and Carol Modery of Beach Hill Pond; daughter Nancy of Troy; daughter Betty and husband Randy Wright of Newton, NC; son Stephen and fiancé Pamela of Brewer; grandchildren Kelly, David, Jim, Tara, Catherine, Christine, Logan, Molly, Michael; great-grandchildren; cousin “Bunky” Thompson; nephew, nieces, cousins, and extended family.

A service is planned for spring with interment at the Rogers Road Cemetery. Those who wish may make gifts to the Troy Union Church, c/o Gail Piper, 230 Bangor Road, Troy, 04987. Condolences to the family may be expressed at www.BrookingsSmith.com.
