Obituary for Joseph E. Lounsbury, Sr. Sr.

Joseph E.  Lounsbury, Sr. Sr.
Brooksville, FL, and Hampden - Joseph E. Lounsbury, Sr., 88, died on March 31, 2017, after a brief illness at a hospital in Brooksville near his Florida home. He was born on January 19, 1929 in Orono, the son of Cecilia and Enoch Lounsbury. Joe became a Seaman Recruit with the US Naval Reserve in July of 1947 and was discharged on February 5, 1951. Three days later he was inducted into the US Army where he served until February 6, 1953 when he was transferred to the US Army Reserves. As a Corporal, he was discharged in August of 1956. Joe married the late Geraldine Rawcliffe on October 25, 1950, and the two shared their lives together until her death on July 25, 2016. Together Joe and Gerry owned and operated a variety of grocery stores in Hampden, Lincoln, and East Millinocket, ME, and were well known fixtures in the Hampden community. Joe was an active member of the Penobscot, Eddington, and Veazie Salmon Clubs and spent many hours wetting a line in the salmon pools of the Penobscot River. Later on he loved playing cribbage and swapping lies with other long-time members of the Veazie club. His love of fishing included trips to the Matapedia and Miramichi Rivers in New Brunswick, the remote lakes of Northern Quebec, Alaska, and most anywhere with the promise of good fishing. Joe was also an avid golfer and for many years, if you were looking for Joe Lounsbury, the golf course was the first place you'd go. In the later years, Joe took up woodworking and was a master of the scroll saw, creating pieces for numerous friends and family and particularly enjoyed attending the Blue Hill Fair where he offered some of his creations for sale. He was a member of the American Legion Post# 0138, Winterport, and the Knights of Columbus, Pine Cone Council #114, Bangor. In addition to his wife and parents, Joe was predeceased by his sister Eleanor Leveille, Gloria Gray, Winnifred Danforth, Kenneth Lounsbury, and W. Jane Sternberg. He is survived by his brother Merle Lounsbury of Rangely, daughter, Sharon Wright and her husband, Bob, of Centerville, OH, son, Joseph E. Lounsbury, Jr. and his wife, Donna, of Palm Coast, FL, daughter, Shelly Eaton and her husband, Jeff, of Spring Hill, FL, daughter, Sheila Marriner and her husband, Mike, of Rotonda West, FL; grandchildren, Bryan Wright, Lisa Shuster, Lauren Wright, Daniel Wright, Jason Lounsbury, Melissa Osher, Jillian Biehl, Kasey Leidenroth, Sarah Marriner, Zachary Marriner and Stacy McCarthy; great grandchildren, Cameron Lounsbury, Griffin Osher, Maren Osher, Tessa Osher, Riley Shuster, and Hank Biehl; numerous nieces and nephews.
