Obituary for William Bernard Clow

EDDINGTON - William B. Clow passed away April 27, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. Like the lighthouses that he kept, William “Bill, Dad, Grampy, Grampy Chief, Great Grampy” was a beacon and caretaker of our family. He shined a light into our lives that will never go out; light that will live on in our hearts. Patriarch, caregiver, story teller and dreamer; Grampy taught us all how important it is to live, do and dream, and to do it NOW.

Born on January 20, 1936 as the only child to Barbara F. (Jordan) and Elmer Clow, he was quoted as saying he was “tough as nails, strong as bricks, born in Franklin in ’36.” He made a career in the Coast Guard, retiring in 1977, then established Downeast Diesel and Marine in Southwest Harbor. Bill raised a family with Ann (Quinn) Clow, and after her death in 2005 he met and married Amelia (Pinkham) Clow.

He is survived by his wife Amelia; three daughters Julie Jordan and her husband Rick, Rebecca Clow, and Jennifer Gott and her husband Peter; step-children Karen Hall and husband Duane, Jeff Pinkham, and Connie Wallace and husband Rick; grandchildren Emily and partner Aaron, Abby and partner Mike, Joshua and wife Becca, William and fiancee Lexi, Anna and fiance Ryan, Ian, Rylie, Isaac, Ivy, and Ella; great grandchildren Adalyn, Taylor and Gavin; and special in-laws Sylvia, Sandra and partner Richard, and Ronnie.

William Clow was a man of his word and more integrity than most. He would tell you exactly what he thought on a given topic and was almost ALWAYS right. He was our rock, our confidante, husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, and was always there for anyone who needed him. He will be missed by all that knew him.

A celebration of life will be held at Jeff’s Catering, 15 Littlefield Way, Brewer Maine on May 6th, 1-3PM.

Donations in his memory can be made to the Children’s Miracle Network, C/O EMHS Foundation, P.O. Box 931, Bangor Maine 04401.
