Obituary for Ronald Melrose Darling
Ronald M. Darling, 67, died peacefully at his home, April 28, 2017, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Old Town, August 18, 1949, son of Doris (Bowley) Darling.
Ron is survived by his devoted wife of 47 years, Dianna (Moran) Darling, brother Vernon Darling and wife Donna of Peoria, IL, sister-in-law Marilyn Darling of Wells, mother-in-law Ruth Moran of Winterport, brothers-in-law, George Moran and wife Cindy of Winterport, Mark Moran and wife Tina of Folsom, CA, sisters- in-law, Melissa Stearns and husband Paul of Guilford and Stephanie Perkins and husband Tom of Orono, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Ron was predeceased by his mother Doris (Bowley) Darling, brother Russell Darling of Wells, and father-in-law George Moran, Sr.of Winterport.
Upon graduation from Hampden Academy, Class of 1967, Ron went to work at Dakin Sporting Goods in Bangor, where he met Dianna Moran of Winterport.
Following in his brother Vernon’s footsteps, Ron enlisted in the U.S. Army in September 1968, completing tours of duty in Vietnam and Germany. He was honorably discharged in August 1971.
Ron married the love of his life, Dianna, in 1970 and they shared 47 years of happiness.
Upon discharge from the service, Ron went to work in Brewer, for Hackett Machine/Lane Supply, for 18 years. In 1990, Ron joined the family business, Superior Lines, where he worked side by side with his wife Dianna until they retired in 2010.
Ron was an avid outdoorsman. He and Dianna were inseparable and they enjoyed spending time at their camp, fly-fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, and ice fishing. Ron and Dianna also enjoyed many trips following the NASCAR circuit. During their retirement they enjoyed singing while playing their banjo, mandolin, and bass at local bluegrass jams. Ron served as a selectman for the Town of Newburgh where he learned “Just because a cat has kittens in the oven, it doesn’t make them biscuits.”
A celebration of life gathering will be held from 1-3 PM, Sunday, June 11, at the Hampden-Gilpatrick Chapel of Brookings-Smith, 45 Western Ave., Hampden. Interment with military honors will follow at the Brookside Cemetery, Newburgh. Condolences to the family may be expressed at www.BrookingsSmith.com.
