Condolence From: Ned Downing
Condolence: Dear Mac and family, It is with sadness that I found this afternoon of Whitey's passing. I have fond memories of both you and Whitey and our horsing around Malmarks, a central meeting place for all my buddies. Whitey was always a breath of sanity among such a crazy bunch that I hung out with in my teen age years! Crazy but warm memories... God bless you a keep the memory of Whity close in your heart. It will never go away.I hope this finds you well. Sincerely, Ned and Carol Downing

Condolence: I was extremely saddened to learn of Whitey's passing. He was a fine man and a great friend to many of us young men who grew up in Presque Isle in the late 50's, the 60's and early 70's. Malmark's, the store owned by he and his brother Mac, was not only a retail store featuring the latest trends in men's clothing in those year, but also a gathering place for many of us who were coming of age in those days. He and Mac made us feel as if we were more then just customers and, in fact, became great friends to many of us. In my years as an undergrad at UMPI, I, along with other good friends, worked there part time. I have wonderful memories of those days. Whitey and I were usually the ones who opened up in the mornings and worked most Friday evenings. In the winter, customers were not that frequent on those evenings and so Whitey and I entertained ourselves by shooting paper basketballs into a hat hanging from a wire in the ceiling. ( Don't tell Mac!!) He was great fun !! He had a great sense of humor and enjoyed telling and hearing a good story. Whitey was a dedicated family man and a loyal friend. What more can you ask of a man? The memories of those days and of Whitey have been with me often over the years and will remain so until my end has come. Goodbye old friend.

Condolence: To Whitey's family... Our sympathies and condolences go out to you. He is in heaven now, no more suffering. Whitey always treated me more than fairly, at their Army/Navy store on Main Street, Presque Isle. He and Mac, along with their Bangor relatives, Joe and Mac Gopan, gave me inspiration and excellent advice on life, 50 years ago. All were wise men. Flo and Roger Carroll, Winchester, Virginia
