Obituary for Michael Gerry Quirk

Michael Gerry Quirk
Michael Gerry Quirk, “MGQ,” 34, passed away July 28, 2017 surrounded by family and close friends at Maine Medical Center in Portland after a hard-fought illness.

Michael was born October 13, 1982 in Bangor, the youngest child to Deborah “Debbie” (Gerry) Gilpatrick and John J. “Jack” Quirk. He attended St. John’s Catholic School, William S. Cohen Middle School and Bangor High School. Mike worked at Quirk Auto Group upon graduation from Northwood University in Michigan in 2005.

Michael loved a good steak, Vegas, nice shoes and following his favorite New England sports teams. His passion for sports, first as a high school athlete and later as a die-hard fan fueled his lifelong competitive nature. He was always the life of the party and someone who loved to debate anything, because he knew he was always right! His five nieces and nephews adored him and looked forward to family gatherings, especially at Elmwood Motor Court in Old Orchard Beach where they played with “Uncle Mikey.”

Mike is survived by his parents, Debbie and Garry Gilpatrick of Hampden and Jack and Rebecca (Ionta) Quirk of Brewer; siblings, Jill (Quirk) Noyes and her husband, Travis of Veazie, John Joseph “Joe” Quirk, III and his wife, Sarah of Bangor; nieces and nephews, Parker, Hannah and Maxwell Noyes, and Gwyneth and John Quirk IV; grandparents, Honora (Baker) Gerry of Bangor, Francis (Prostak) Quirk of Brewer, John E. Quirk and his wife, Bernice of Hampden; significant other, Tanya Pinkham of Bangor, as well as many close aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. He was predeceased by his grandfather, Harland S. Gerry.

The family would like to thank the medical staff at Maine Medical Center, especially the nurses and doctors in SCU 2, for their excellent care of Michael during his five-week hospitalization, as well as his close friends, Matt Anderson, Brian Sing, Scott Lever and Erica Prudente for their support and love.

A celebration of Mike’s life will be held Thursday, August 3, 2017 from 5 – 7 PM at the Bangor Banquet and Conference Center, 713 Hogan Road, Bangor. A private family service and burial will be held at an earlier time. In lieu of flowers, the family requests making the gift of life by donating blood or by registering as an organ donor. Condolences to the family may be expressed at www.BrookingsSmith.com.

We will miss our “Smiley Mike.”
