Roger Lawrence  Murphy, Sr.
Winterport – Roger L. Murphy, 71, died September 18, 2017, at his home. He was born August 31, 1946, in Houlton, the son of Ralph and Mary (Finnegan) Murphy. Roger loved to spend time with his children and grand kids, hunting, fishing, boating, camping, and teaching all who wanted to learn to shoot and how to reload. He loved to tell tall tales and was very good at revising them over and over. Roger is survived by his wife of 50+ years, Linda (Bryer) Murphy; children, Carol Murphy of Glenburn, Cassandra Chase and husband Daniel of Orono, Roger Murphy, Jr. and Tami Sapiel of East Newport, Michael Murphy and wife Melinda, of Winterport; grandchildren, who were the loves of his life, Daniel and Heather Chase, Brooke, Evan, Lucas, and Jazmin Murphy, Aaron Paige, Sueann and Leann Foster, Kara Turner, and Katelyn Vaverchak; his brother Donald Murphy and wife Lisa, of Bangor; and sister Phyllis Maloon, of Vernon, CT. He is also survived by step-siblings, Don, Bob, Tina, Faye, Diane, and Beverly; nieces and nephews, Mark, Judy, Lynette, Amy, Lisa, and Jamie; sisters and brothers-in-law, Ruby Story, Ruby C. Bryer, Ruby Bryer, Cathy Bryer, Dennis Ryder, Barbara Everett, Bill and Terry Bryer, Lorraine Bryer, and Rena and Fran Murray; nieces and nephews-in-law, Sherry, Paul, Sonya, Tracy, Darrell, Vicki, Sandy, Denise, Dennis, Evelyn, Jim, DeAnna, Ron, Robin, Veronica, Billy, Terry, Shaylene, Kenny, Michelle, Shirley, Reneé, and Adam. He was predeceased by brothers Gary, Gerald, and Ralph, Jr., and his stepmother, Ruth. A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, September 21, 2017, at the Hampden-Gilpatrick Chapel of Brookings-Smith, 45 Western Ave., Hampden. Relatives and friends are welcome to call from 12 noon until start of service. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Winterport.
