Obituary for Jean Elizabeth Warren

Jean Elizabeth Warren
Elizabeth Carter Warren, 69, passed away peacefully in the early hours of Sept. 17 surrounded by her family after a long co-existence with Frontotemporal Dementia.
She was born in Caribou on Sept. 10, 1948, the daughter of Helen Pingree Bearce and George Milton Carter, Jr. Beth loved growing up in Caribou in a wonderful neighborhood with her two brothers and many friends with whom to plot adventures and mischief.
She attended Caribou High School and graduated from Stoneleigh-Burnham School in Greenfield, Massachusetts. She graduated with a degree from Westbrook College in Portland in 1968, followed by a certificate from Katharine Gibbs in Boston, Massachusetts. She took additional courses at Dartmouth College, University of Maine Orono and Bangor Theological Seminary. While at Dartmouth, she danced and rehearsed with Alison Chase, Moses Pendleton and the founding company of Pilobolus.
Beth was happiest when surrounded by friends and family. She had an effervescent spirit that filled every room she entered and drew others to her. She made everyone feel as if they were the most important person in her orbit.
She loved spending time with her family. Holidays at Cross Lake and Sugarloaf, and summer days in Robinsonville, New Brunswick and Castine with family and friends brought her immense joy. Beth was a talented and gifted cook and hostess who was unfazed by the prospect of dinner for five or twenty-five. The more the merrier, in her mind. She loved nothing more than a house filled with good company, laughter and great food.
Beth also loved to travel and shared a passion for fly fishing with her husband Rick. Their pursuit of tight lines took them around the world, from Russia to Argentina to Scotland and back to their own backyards in Maine and Canada.
Beth was always active in her community and generous with her time. She served on the boards of Bangor Children's Home, Bangor Theological Seminary, Maine Maritime Academy, Westbrook College, Eastern Maine Medical Center, Acadia Hospital, the Maine Board of Bar Overseers, Merrill Merchants Bank, the Maine Center for the Arts Advisory Board and served as parent representative to the Bowdoin College Board of Trustees. She was a member of the Altar Guild at St. John's Episcopal Church in Bangor and an active member of Shakespeare Club.
As much as she enjoyed her board work, Beth drew the most pleasure from activities that connected her with people. She delivered Meals for ME for years and always made extra time for each client to whom she delivered a meal. If she could help alleviate the loneliness and isolation of one person through the gift of her time and attention, she was gratified.
Beth's commitment to her community was recognized by the American Heart Association with its Gold Heart Award in 2002 and by the Bangor Chamber of Commerce with The Norbert X. Dowd Award in 2006.
Beth is survived by her beloved husband of 39 years, Richard J. Warren; her children, Courtney Adragna, George Warren and Anne Warren; her son-in-law, Scott Golding; her brothers, Bearce Carter and his wife, Nona, Nicholas Carter and his wife, Susan; her sister-in-law, Carolyn Mowers; her grandchildren, Grace, Holden and Carter Adragna, and William and Charles Golding; her nieces and nephews, Lise and Joseph Carter, Sarah and Andrew Carter, Scott Farley and Jennifer Mowers. She was predeceased by her first husband, Joseph Sewall.
Beth's family wishes to express their appreciation and thanks to the people who took such special care of her throughout her illness, especially Sharrie and Priscilla Handy and the caring nurses of Loving Touch In-Home Care.
A funeral service will be held Friday, Sept. 29, 2017, at 11 a.m. at St. John's Episcopal Church, 225 French Street, Bangor, with the Rev. Canon Marguerite A.H. Steadman, rector, officiating. Interment at the cemetery will be private. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at The Tarratine, 81 Park Street in Bangor immediately following the service. Those who wish to remember Beth in a special way may make a gift in her memory to the Eastern Agency on Aging, 450 Essex Street, Bangor, Maine 04401 or eaaa.org.
