Florence Mildred  Ross (Melvin)
Florence Mildred Ross, 94, passed away peacefully September 20, 2017, at a Bangor healthcare facility. She was born April 29, 1923, in Rome, Maine the daughter of Floyd W. and Mildred F. (Nickerson) Melvin.

Florence graduated from Gilman’s Commercial School in February of 1944. She worked for the Brewer Junk Company as the comptroller for 35 years. Florence was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Bangor. She was a strong, caring matriarch of a large family who she loved dearly and kept everyone in touch. Florence was a devoted mother, Nana, Aunt, and friend. She lovingly enjoyed her circle of friends with whom she played cards, sewed, knitted, and shared many adventures.

Florence was predeceased by her husband Don; and siblings Walter Melvin, Richard Melvin, Ernest “Tinker” Melvin, Carolyn Sadlowski, Virginia Rice, and Robert Melvin; two nephews and one niece. She is survived by daughters, Candy Pinkham and husband Alan, Donna Crane and husband Ron; grandchildren, Emily Fisher and husband Jason, Carrie and partner Will Dawes; brother, Floyd Melvin and sister, Ruby Driscoll; great-grandchildren, Devon, Matthew and Briahna; two great-great children; numerous nieces and nephews; and her feline friend, Gabby. The family would like to give a special thanks to Emma and Donna from Hospice of Eastern Maine.

Funeral service will be held 3 PM, Sunday, September 24, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center Street, Bangor, with Rev. Arlene Tully, Pastor of the First United Methodist Church of Bangor, presiding. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center Street, following the service. Interment will be at a later date at Woodlawn Cemetery, Brewer. Those who wish to remember Florence in a special way may make gifts to the Bangor Humane Society, 693 Mt.
