Winterport – John P. Gaudet, Sr., 85, died unexpectedly, September 30, 2017, at a Calais hospital. He was born October 17, 1931, in Lawrence, MA, the son of Phillip I. and Mary B. (Gallant) Gaudet.

John attended schools in Lawrence. After graduating from high school, he went to work with his father, where he learned to be a builder in the construction industry. Sensing the need to be in the country and out of “the rat race”, John moved to Maine, where he continued building. He was able to enjoy hunting and fishing, hobbies he grew to love. John enjoyed gardening and snowmobiling and was a member of the Winterport Snowmobile Club. He was a proud member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks #244.

In addition to his parents, John was predeceased by his previous wife, Priscilla; and seven siblings. He is survived by his wife Ella; his children, Steven, Pamela Marden and husband Michael, Patricia Burington, and John, Jr. and his wife Lisa; stepchildren, Deborah Nash, Ruth Perreault and husband Victor, Nancy Gauthier, and Rebecca Nash; 15 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; five brothers and sisters; many, many nieces and nephews; and special friend for many years, Reggie Rancourt.

Friends and relatives are welcome to call 6-8pm, Thursday, October 5, 2017, at the Hampden-Gilpatrick Chapel of Brookings-Smith, 45 Western Ave., Hampden, where a memorial service will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. by the officers and members of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks #244. A Funeral Liturgy outside of Mass will be held 1:00 p.m. Friday, October 6, 2017 at the Hampden-Gilpatrick Chapel of Brookings-Smith. Interment will be private.
