Obituary for M. Gene Greene (Burgess)

M. Gene (Burgess) Greene, 97, passed away October 7, 2017, at her residence in Hermon with her loving grandson, Robert Burgess by her side. She was born August 23, 1920, in Bangor, the daughter of Elias and Margaret (Cheverie) Burgess.

Gene lived in Massachusetts for many years and married Don Greene in 1947. They owned restaurants in Concord, Mass until they retired to Daytona, Florida, where they lived for many years. Don passed away in 1987 and after a few years Gene moved to Maine to be near her family and resided in Hermon.

She is survived by three sisters; Aileen Seguino of Bangor, Joan Orcutt and husband, Sib of Eddington, Shirley Hurry of Florida; grandsons, Robert Burgess and wife, Trinity of Hermon, Donald Burgess of Bangor; granddaughter, Lisa Brill of Florida; greatgrandchildren, Michelle and Kyle Miller, Ashley and Mike Deluca, Jeffrey, Joshua, Cherish, John, Brandy, Ann Marie, Triston and Trevor; and twelve great great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, Gene was predeceased by a son, Robert F. Burgess, a grandson, Jeffrey Burgess; sisters, Anna Bart and husband Bill, Lucille Cowallis and husband, Arthur, Jean Burgess; brothers, Dick Burgess and wife, Phyllis, Dale Burgess and wife, Lottie, Ernie Burgess and wife, Ernestine, Charles Burgess, Lindy and wife Marion Burgess, and Joseph Burgess; brothers-in-law, Steve Seguino and Lee Hurry. Gene wanted to especially thank her grandson Robert and family for taking care of her the past 2 years, special thanks to nephews, Jim and Teresa for the plowing and shoveling, Larry and Suzette for lawn mowing to help her, Debbie Cox for cleaning, Joan and Sib Orcutt for being on call for everything, and dear niece Mariana Grifasi-Miller and Dr. Miller.

Friends may call from 5-7 PM, Tuesday, Oct. 10, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center Street, Bangor. A Funeral Mass will be held 1 PM, Wed, Oct. 11, at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 768 Ohio Street, Bangor. Following the Funeral Mass the family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments in the Parish Hall. Rite of Committal will be at a later date at Mt.
