Obituary for Bernice C. Eggleston, D.O. (Cox)

HOLDEN – Bernice C. Eggleston D.O., lovingly known as Dr. B, Bunny, G.G.E., Gram, & Mom died of natural causes at the age of 97 at the home of her daughter, Jean and son-in-law, Richard Wood, in Holden on October 24, 2017. Bernice was born on June 10, 1920 in Kirksville MO, the daughter of Dr. Melvin B. and Alecia (Carville) Cox.

Bernice grew up in Farmington and graduated from Farmington High School in 1938. She followed in her father's footsteps and attended Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine, Kirksville, MO, where she met and married Clark Eggleston in 1941, and graduated in 1943. She practiced medicine for 60 years in Missourri, Montana, Kansas, Stratton and Norridgewock, Maine, retiring at 83. Bernice's loves included her extended family, playing the trumpet and piano, poetry, taking care of people, serving others and most of all, serving the Lord.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Clark. Survivors include a son, William and his wife, Patricia of Hooksett, NH, a son, James of Cambridge MA, a daughter, Jean Wood and husband, Richard of Holden, Maine, 7 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren.

A Christian celebration of her life will be held 1pm Sunday, October 29, 2017 at the Brewer Chapel of Brookings-Smith, 55 So. Main St., Brewer, with Pastor Jacky Willhoite, officiating. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the Family Reception Rooms of Brookings-Smith immediately following the service. Interment will be in the East Skowhegan Cemetery, on the Oak Pond Rd in Skowhegan. Those who wish to remember Bernice in a special way may make donations in her name to the Good Shepherd Food Bank of Maine, PO Box 479, Lewiston, ME 04243-0479.
