BANGOR - Marvin H. Glazier “MG” passed away peacefully in his home on Thursday November 23, 2017 after a brief, but hard-fought, battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his dedicated wife Sheri, their loving children, and his devoted sister and brother-in-law Rachel and David Leen.
Marvin was born in New York City but grew up in Bangor. He graduated from Maine Central Institute in Pittsfield in 1962, from the University of Maine at Orono in 1966, and from Boston University School of Law in 1969. He began working at Vafiades, Brountas, & Kominsky in November 1969 and remained there throughout his career. MG loved his work as a lawyer.
Marvin was predeceased by his Father, Neil Glazier.
He is survived by his Mother, Frances (Borowitz) Glazier of Bangor; his Wife of nearly 50 years, Sheri Glazier of Bangor; Children, Amy and her husband Rob Baker of Brewer; Lori Glazier and her husband Keith Marill, M.D. of Boston, Massachusetts; Jill Glazier of Steamboat Springs, Colorado; Grandchildren, Lindsey and Landon Baker of Brewer, Hannah, Austin, and Jessica Marill of Boston, Massachusetts; Siblings, Rachel and husband David Leen of Bangor; Lynne Edgecomb of Sun City, Arizona; Sisters-in-law Debbie and husband John Hickein of Merritt Island, Florida, Karen Rose of Los Angeles, California; Brother-in-law Jeffrey Goldberg of Pine Lake, Georgia; Mother-in-Law, Claire Rabinowe of Merritt Island, Florida; many cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; his Law Family of Vafiades, Brountas & Kominsky and the large legal community throughout the State of Maine.
Marvin was a doting grandfather to his five adoring grandchildren. They will remember him for his loving, kind, and calm nature; the many lunch dates he treated them to; as well as outings to see all of the latest kids’ movies. Another favorite memory will be the yearly trip to see the Portland Sea Dogs.
When he wasn’t practicing law Marvin “enjoyed’ adventurous travel to exotic destinations planned by his wife. Their many trips together are a source of countless stories and treasured memories.
He was a highly respected, distinguished lawyer and a true general practitioner with a wealth of experience as a civil litigator and criminal defense lawyer. He was admitted to practice before the State of Maine Bar, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Bar, the Penobscot Tribal Court, United States District Court for the District of Maine, the First Circuit Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court of the United States of America. Throughout his career, Marvin was on many Boards, including the Bangor Zoning Board of Appeals, the University of Maine Alumni Fraternity Counsel, President of the Board at Project Atrium, President of the Jewish Community Endowment Associates, Eastern Maine Medical Center Human Rights Board, Chair and Member of the Board of Bar Overseers, the District of Maine’s Criminal Justice Act (CJA) Representative, Federal Criminal Law Committee, and one of the five original members of the Maine Commission on Indigent Legal Services.
Marvin was a devoted and loving son, husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. He was a fantastic lawyer, advocate, mentor, dear friend and a remarkable man who made a strong, positive contribution over a lifetime in Bangor. He will be missed by many and especially his immediate family who loved him so.

Funeral services will be Monday, November 27, 2017 at 12:00 p.m. at Beth Israel Synagogue, 144 York Street, Bangor, ME 04401. The internent will immediately follow services at the Beth Israel Cemetery. The family will be sitting Shiva Monday, November 27 from 6pm to 8pm; Tuesday, November 28 from 1pm to 3pm and from 6pm to 8pm; and Wednesday November 29 from 1pm to 3pm and from 6pm to 8pm at the Glaziers’ home in Bangor.
