Obituary for Herbert Leslie Frost

Herbert Leslie Frost, 71, passed away peacefully, at his home surrounded by his family, December 1, 2017, after a 10 year courageous journey with cancer. He was born in Bangor July 7, 1946, son of Ivan A. and Pauline F. (Richards) Frost.
Herb was a proud graduate of Hampden Academy, class of 1964, and a 1972 graduate of Husson College with a degree in accounting.
Herb was co-owner and bookkeeper of the business founded by his father in 1934, Ivan Frost Garage. Later Herb and his brother, Buzz took over the business and changed the name to Frost’s Garage. Herb worked many years at the business, until his retirement in 2012.
In 1998 he was baptized and became a member of the Hampden Congregational Church, where he served as a deacon.
Herb was a member and past master of Mystic Lodge #65, Hampden, Scottish and York Rite Bodies, Penobscot Chapter, Anah Shriners and the Keystone Kops. He was also a member of the Hampden Historical Society serving as a member of the board of directors, the Odd Fellows of Hermon, a former member of the Hampden Recreation Committee, the tax board of appeals, the Hampden Pool Committee, the Hampden Sesquencentineal Committee, Bicentennial chairman, chair of the Hampden Veterans Honor Roll committee and trustee of the Hampden Water District.
Herb was a devoted family man who cherished many memories with his brother and sisters, children and grandchildren. He checked on his grandchildren daily and was exceedingly proud of all of them.
Surviving are his daughter Christie Grant and her husband, William of Winthrop; a son Herbert L. Frost III and his wife Jennifer of Hampden; five grandchildren, William Grant, Jr., Wyatt Grant, Weston Herbert Grant, Aundreya Frost, Christopher Frost; one brother Ivan “Buzz” Frost and his wife, Ruthanne, three sisters Geraldine Stanhope and her husband Rodney, Priscilla Ellingwood and her husband Dennis all of Hampden, Paula Lepore of Berwick; many nieces and nephews; special friends he considered family, Bion and Doraine Foster of Brunswick, Mike and Stacy Thibodeau of Winterport, and their daughters Sara and Megan .
Herb loved the outdoors whether it was gardening, walking in the woods collecting tips for making wreaths or mowing the lawn at his home.
We know Herb’s memory and spirit will live on in his family and friends, at his favorite place on earth, Halfmoon Pond.
Relatives and friends are invited to call 2-4 and 6 to 8pm. Friday, December 8, 2017 at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St. Bangor, where a masonic memorial service conducted by the members of Mystic Lodge #65 will be held at 6 pm. Funeral services will be held 11 am. Saturday, December 9, 2017, at the Hampden Congregational Church, 101 Main Rd. North, Hampden. The family invites all for conversation and refreshments at the church, following the service. Private interment will be in Locust Grove Cemetery, Hampden.
