HAMPDEN & FORT FAIRFIELD - E. Marguerite Peters, 96, died peacefully in her sleep on Dec 3, 2017. Born in Fort Fairfield on November 19, 1921, she was a daughter of Richard and Phoebe (Caron) Van Buskirk.

She attended local schools, graduating from Fort Fairfield High School, Class of 1938. She continued her education at Aroostook State Normal School, graduating in 1941. She went on to teach in one-room schools in Presque Isle and Fort Fairfield, later moving to the Junior High in Fort Fairfield.
On November 6, 1946, she married Jerome Peters and together they raised a family of seven children. During the mid-seventies, Marguerite initiated efforts leading to the founding of the Fort Fairfield High School Alumni Association. In 1994 she moved to Hampden to be near her family.

Marguerite is survived by her daughters, Cynthia, Ruth, Mary, and Joan; a son and daughter-in-law; 3 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by several special nieces. In addition to her parents, Marguerite was pre-deceased by her husband, Jerome, 3 sons, Richard, Michael, baby boy Peters, and 2 sisters.

The family would like to extend special thanks to the entire staff of Stillwater Health Care for the care and compassion shown to our mother over the past few months.

A Funeral Mass will be held 12 noon, Wednesday, December 6, 2017, at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. Matthew’s Catholic Church, 70 Western Avenue, Hampden. Interment will be in St. Denis Catholic Cemetery, Fort Fairfield, at a date and time to be announced in the spring.
