Margharetta “Peggy” Eldridge Beitzell

Bangor

Margharetta E. Beitzell, 89, died December 3, 2017 at a Bangor hospital. She was born August 30, 1928, in New York City, NY, the daughter of Richard Bullen and Emily Catherine (Campbell) Eldridge.

Peggy graduated from Nyack High School. She attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she earned her B. A. in Modern European history. While there, she met her husband, Robert E. Beitzell. They moved to Maine where he taught at the University of Maine, Orono, in the history department. Peggy lived for two years in Tokyo, Japan, while her father was working with the ARC Service to Military Installations during the occupation of Japan. She also enjoyed a years travel in Europe after college.

She was predeceased by her husband and her parents. Surviving are a son, Peter Beitzell and wife Cheryl of Bangor.

A graveside service will be held 11 am. Friday December 8, 2017 at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Bangor, with the Rev. Canon Marguerite A. H. Steadman, Rector of St. John’s Episcopal Church, presiding. Relatives and friends are invited to meet at the Severance Rd. on Mt. Hope Ave. at 10:45 am Friday.
