LINCOLN – Charles A. Gillmor, Sr., 78, died December 4, 2017, at a Lincoln hospital. He was born May 29, 1939, in Princeton, the son of Donald C. Gillmor and Helen Marie (Ingersoll) Gillmor.
Charles spent much of his adult life in the Concord, MA area and besides being very active in the community he owned and operated a local garage and wrecker service, which later developed into a popular Chrysler dealership. After returning to Maine in 1976 he worked for GP until he decided to open a sawmill in Princeton. He later moved his sawmill to Chester and added a chip plant and planer mill, which he sold in 2001. Charles had a love of horses and farm animals and dabbled in farming for several years before building Gillmor Farms homemade ice cream venue and later Gillmor’s Restaurant in Lincoln in 2005. His accomplishments will continue to provide employment and enjoyment for the community for years to come.
He was a lover of nature and spent many hours exploring the woods and waters with his loved and faithful dog, Minnie.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Edna Yates. Surviving, in addition to his wife, Catherine, are sons, Charles, Jr. and James, both of Lincoln; and a daughter, Karen Nicholas, of West Brookfield, MA; three stepsons, Jamie Breen and his wife Kasey, of Virginia, Cole Averill and his wife, Jen, and Parker Averill, all of Lincoln; three grandchildren, Maddie of Lincoln, and Colin and Joseph of Virginia; a brother, Edward Gillmor, of Howland; and 2 sisters, Phyllis Davis of Bangor, and Edith Sprague of Grand Lake Stream; a very special niece and nephew, Bonnie and Robert Gagner of Grand Lake Stream; and many other nieces, nephews and friends.
The family would like to extend a very special thank you to the staff at Penobscot Valley Hospital for the excellent care and services in their Comfort Care unit.
