Brewer and Bangor

David M. Getchell, Sr., 78, died peacefully surrounded by his loving family, December 12, 2017 at his home in Brewer. He was born September 4, 1939, in Bangor, son of Norman Liston and Eleanor M. (Lee) Getchell. David was educated in the Bangor schools and employed by the H.P. Hood Company, retail ice cream, for 26 years, retiring as general manager. For the past 27 years, David and his late wife, Margie, were foster parents through Commonsense Housing. He enjoyed traveling with his family with no destination, but could be found at his favorite local places, Cityside Restaurant, Jason’s Pizza, Gosselin’s Bakery, and the Coach House Restaurant. David was predeceased by his loving wife, Margaret of 52 years, his parents, a sister, Eleanor “Skippy” Durant, and son-in-law, Paul. Surviving are three children, Vicki Hamm, of Brewer, Valri Berkoff, and her husband, Anthony, of San Antonio, TX, and David M. Getchell, Jr. and his wife, Tina of Brewer; 8 Grandchildren, Matthew, Jasmine, Matteah, Alexis, Makenna, Dakota, Dallas, and Courtney, one brother, Norman Getchell, of Ocala, FL, one sister, Mary Jean Igoe, of Bangor, Nieces and Nephews, and two foster sons, Chris and Nick. A special thank you to Dr. Jack Forbush and staff. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center St., Bangor, 2-4pm, Sunday, December 17, 2017.
