Obituary for Beverly Ruth Mallett (Luce)

BREWER- Beverly R. (Luce) Mallett, 92, died peacefully December 11, 2017 at her granddaughter’s home in Hermon. She was born April 24,1925, in Troy, the daughter of Ralph and Eva (Call) Luce.

Beverly graduated from Unity High School in 1941 at 16 years old. She worked several jobs including the Shipyard Canteen in Portland, as a household nanny for a family in New Jersey, and as a Billing Clerk at Bangor Hydro Electric Co. It was here she met a meter reader named John H. Mallett. Their first date was a day trip and boat cruise in Bar Harbor. Love bloomed and they were married on August 13,1949 in her parent’s living room in Troy by her husband’s brother-in-law Rev. Leslie Howland. They built their home together and settled down in Brewer. She continued to work at Bangor Hydro until the birth of her second son when she stopped to raise their boys. Beverly had been an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Brewer and over the years served on many committees. She was also the Coordinator of altar flowers, communion and funerals. She loved to read and enjoyed watching Spooky, her cat play. She adored her great-grandchildren and would delight in visits from them. She was fond of playing cards and visiting with her friends at the weekly meeting of the Brewer Senior Citizens Lunch Group and had recently been getting a kick out of watching Columbo reruns on Sunday nights.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband John and her only brother Francis. Surviving are her sons, Dean Mallett and his wife Susan of Hermon and Ralph Mallett of Brewer; granddaughters Christina (Mallett) Rios and her husband Nixon of Hermon, Rebecca (Mallett) Jourdan and her husband Bliss of Macon, GA; seven great-grandchildren Isabel, Alexander, Genevieve, Jillian and Natalie Rios-Mallett, Adelie and Gwendolyn Jourdan; sister-in-law Bessie Luce of Troy and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A funeral service will be held at 2pm on Wednesday, December 20 at The First United Methodist Church in Brewer with Pastor Steven Brakey officiating. Following the service friends and family are invited to share conversation and refreshments at the church. Burial, with a small family graveside service, will follow in the spring. Those who wish to remember Beverly in a special way may make donations in her memory to the American Cancer Society. Condolences to the family may be expressed at BrookingsSmith.com
